South Africa strengthened their campaign with a commanding 88-run victory over the Netherlands, powered by a sensational unbeaten 114*(69) from Tazmin Brits and a disciplined bowling performance that sealed their biggest win of the tournament by 88 runs. Brits stole the show with a magnificent 114*(69), striking 15 fours and 3 sixes as South Africa piled up an imposing 208/1 in Bristol. It was a knock that combined power, timing and composure, with the opener carrying her bat from the first over to the last.

Asked to bat first, South Africa made their intentions clear immediately. Brits and captain Laura Wolvaardt (45 off 36) added 121 for the opening wicket after racing to 66 without loss in the powerplay. Wolvaardt played the perfect supporting role before becoming the only batter dismissed, caught behind off Hannah Landheer, who finished with 1/34. If the Netherlands thought that breakthrough would slow the scoring, they were quickly proven wrong.

Brits reached her century in just 63 balls before Annerie Dercksen unleashed an explosive 37*(16), smashing three fours and two sixes. South Africa hammered 87 runs in the final 6.3 overs to finish with one of the highest totals of the tournament so far. Caroline de Lange (0/22) was the most economical of the Netherlands bowlers, while Iris Zwilling (0/45), Silver Siegers (0/60), Frederique Overdijk (0/26) and Myrthe van den Raad (0/10) all found it difficult to contain South Africa’s relentless scoring.

The Netherlands responded positively despite the daunting target. Sanya Khurana attacked early with 36(30), while Phebe Molkenboer anchored the innings with 41(41). The pair guided the Dutch to 50 without loss inside the powerplay, briefly raising hopes of a competitive chase. But South Africa’s experienced attack gradually took control. Chloe Tryon dismissed Khurana before Shabnim Ismail removed Sterre Kalis for 26(28). From there, wickets fell at regular intervals as the required rate spiralled beyond reach.

Ayabonga Khaka led the bowling effort with outstanding figures of 3/19, cleaning up the lower order after removing Babette de Leede, Iris Zwilling and Hannah Landheer. Tryon returned 2/16, Nadine de Klerk claimed 1/20, while Marizanne Kapp (0/11) and Nonkululeko Mlaba (0/22) kept things quiet through the middle overs. The Netherlands collapsed from 100/2 to 120/8, losing six wickets for just 20 runs as South Africa wrapped up an emphatic victory.

The result gave South Africa another significant boost in Group 1, improving both their points tally and net run rate heading into the final stretch of the league stage. With Brits producing the innings of the tournament and the bowling unit once again delivering as a collective, South Africa have placed themselves firmly in the race for a semi-final spot.
