Announced: Australia’s Squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026

Australia have announced their 15-player squad for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales, with selectors backing a mix of experienced campaigners and new talent ahead of next month’s tournament.

The biggest talking point from the squad announcement is the omission of fast bowler Darcie Brown, while 20-year-old left-arm quick Lucy Hamilton has earned a maiden World Cup call-up after making her international debut earlier this year. Nicola Carey also returns to a T20 World Cup squad for the first time since 2020 following a strong domestic and international season.

Australia Squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026:

Sophie Molineux (C), Ashleigh Gardner, Tahlia McGrath, Nicola Carey, Kim Garth, Lucy Hamilton, Grace Harris, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Voll, Georgia Wareham

Travelling reserve: Tahlia Wilson

The tournament will mark Sophie Molineux’s first ICC event as Australia captain following Alyssa Healy’s retirement from international cricket. Despite a few fresh faces, the squad still retains the core of Australia’s experienced white-ball setup, including Perry, Mooney, Gardner, McGrath and Schutt.

Selectors opted for Hamilton ahead of Brown due to the conditions expected in England, where swing and variation are likely to play a bigger role than outright pace. Hamilton’s left-arm angle provides Australia with a different seam option in a bowling attack otherwise dominated by right-arm quicks.

“Darcie Brown was unlucky to miss out, but the decision was based on the conditions we’re expecting and the makeup of the side,” selector Shawn Flegler said. “With at least six right-arm pace options in the mix and raw pace expected to be less effective, we opted to go with Lucy Hamilton, who offers something different as a left-arm quick.”

Hamilton has enjoyed a rapid rise over the past few months after impressive performances for Brisbane Heat and Australia A. She debuted across formats in March and is now set for her first senior ICC tournament at just 20 years old.

Australia have also restored experienced allrounders Nicola Carey and Grace Harris to the squad. Carey returned to the national setup after nearly three years away, while Harris comes back after being left out of the recent West Indies tour. Their inclusions strengthen Australia’s middle-order depth and provide additional bowling options.

Australia’s batting lineup remains among the strongest in the competition. Beth Mooney, Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll are expected to provide aggressive starts, while Perry, Gardner and McGrath offer stability and finishing power through the middle overs. The spin attack featuring Molineux, Alana King and Georgia Wareham is also expected to be crucial in English conditions.

Annabel Sutherland’s return after an extended break is another major boost for the side. The allrounder remains one of Australia’s key players in both departments and is expected to play a central role throughout the tournament. “We’re pleased to welcome Annabel Sutherland back from an extended break as well. She’s fresh and ready to go and will play an important role throughout the tournament,” Flegler said.

Australia head into the tournament once again among the favourites despite New Zealand entering as defending champions. The side will play three warm-up matches against South Africa beginning on May 31 before opening their World Cup campaign in June.

“These squads are never easy to select but we’re confident with the balance and stability we’ve got across the group. It’s an experienced group and one we believe is capable of winning the World Cup,” Flegler added.
