Uganda won the toss and elected to bowl, aiming to apply immediate pressure, and they did just that. Tanzania opened their innings with Saum Mtae and Fatuma Kibasu, but their partnership struggled to gain traction. Mtae managed only 2 runs off 7 balls, while Kibasu scored 10 off 16.

Neema Plus added just 5 runs off 23 balls. The turning point came as Tanzanian batters succumbed to Uganda’s tight bowling, leading to frequent early dismissals. Despite some resistance from the middle and lower order, the team crumbled, finishing their innings at just 54 runs for 10 wickets in 19.5 overs.

Among Uganda’s bowlers, a few stood out: Immaculate Nakisuuyi took 2 wickets for 12 runs, while Concy Aweko registered impressive figures of 1 wicket for just 3 runs in her 4 overs, effectively stifling late partnerships. Kevin Amuge and Janet Mbabazi also performed well, with Amuge finishing with 1 for 9 and Mbabazi taking 1 for 1. The pressure they exerted throughout the innings contributed significantly to Tanzania’s batting collapse.

As for the chase, Uganda approached it with a sense of calm and confidence. Their openers, captain Janet Mbabazi and Esther Iloku, laid a solid foundation. Mbabazi struck the first boundary in the very first over, and Iloku, with her steady knock of 28* runs off 41 balls, anchored the chase effectively. Although Uganda lost a few wickets along the way, their middle order focused on sensible batting. By the 12.3 over mark, they had comfortably reached their target of 55 runs for the loss of just 3 wickets, clinching victory with more than seven overs to spare.

While there weren’t any massive partnerships, the steady accumulation of runs by the top and middle order demonstrated sound batting under pressure. Iloku’s patient approach was well-suited to the circumstances, allowing Uganda to execute their plan flawlessly.

On Tanzania’s side, there were glimpses of resistance in the bowling department. Perice Kamunya delivered a tidy spell with figures of 1 for 13, attempting to create pressure. Mwanamvua Ushanga and Jenifer Kimaro also claimed a wicket each, but ultimately, the bowlers faced an uphill battle as the batters struggled to generate momentum.
