The Southern Brave faced Welsh Fire in the seventeenth match of The Hundred (Women’s) 2024. The table toppers, Welsh Fire, registered their fourth victory of the season against the Brave, winning by 7 wickets.

1) Hayley Matthews 3/16 (Welsh Fire)

The Windies’ skipper ran through the Southern Brave middle-order to restrict the winless Brave to a score of 84. Her first wicket came in the form of Freya Kemp, who lofted the ball over long-off but into the hands of Sophia Dunkley. Later on, she dismantled the stumps of Chloe Tryon, followed by the wicket of Rhianna Southby. She finished with figures of 3 for 16. Although she couldn’t make an impact with the bat as she was dismissed for one, her performance with the ball ensured the hosts registered a comfortable victory. She later received the Player of the Match award.

 

2) Tammy Beaumont 34 (Welsh Fire)

The Welsh skipper was the top scorer for her side, who were chasing a total of 85 against the Brave. The right-handed batter anchored the innings after her team lost early wickets in the form of Sophia Dunkley and Hayley Matthews. Tammy smashed six boundaries throughout her innings.

3) Lauren Cheatle 2/8 (Southern Brave)

Though in a losing cause, the Australian pacer stood out for her team with the ball. The left-arm pacer provided early breakthroughs for her side, who were defending 84. Lauren first dismissed Sophia Dunkley for a golden duck and her second wicket was Tammy Beaumont for 34. She finished with an economical spell of 2 for 8 in four sets (20 balls).
