The Australian duo of Grace Harris and Sophie Molineux has been ruled out of ‘The Hundred’ due to injury, and pacers Kim Garth and Megan Schutt have been called in as replacements.
London Spirit will miss the services of the bowling all-rounder Grace Harris as she aggravated a calf injury. Harris is likely to regain her fitness in time for the three-match home T20I series against New Zealand ahead of the T20 World Cup.
“Harris suffered an aggravation of a calf injury sustained in her preparation for The Hundred and the upcoming season,” CA’s statement said. The injury initially occurred while she was preparing for The Hundred and the upcoming season.
Currently, Harris is undergoing a structured rehabilitation and return-to-play program to ensure her recovery and eventual return to competitive play, keeping an eye on the T20 World Cup in October. Grace Harris will be replaced by Deepti Sharma. However, due to Sharma’s unavailability during the start of the fourth edition, Australian all-rounder Erin Burns filling in, while Schutt will be heading to the United Kingdom to join London Spirit as a cover.
Megan Schutt, who was the leading wicket-taker for the Australian side during the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup, will be heading to ‘The Hundred’ tournament for her second season, having played for London Spirit in 2022.
On the other hand, Sophie Molineux’s injury could harm Australia’s World Cup defense. She has been sidelined for up to eight weeks with a fractured rib and is now in a race against time to regain fitness ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in September.
Molineux suffered an acute rib fracture after being struck in the chest by a ball while batting last week. She will miss out on participation in ‘The Hundred’ which could have been her maiden appearance in the 100-ball competition.
Australian all-rounder Kim Garth will replace Sophie Molineux at the Manchester Originals in the fourth edition of ‘The Hundred’ tournament. Kim has already featured in ‘The Hundred’ once before, having played for the Trent Rockets in 2022.
Following Megan Schutt and Kim Garth’s call-up for ‘The Hundred,’ the duo will miss the multi-format series against India A, for which they were part of the Australia A squad. Both players were part of the T20 and ODI squads set to be played early next month but will now be replaced by Maitlan Brown and Kate Peterson in the home ‘A’ series.
