Kary Chan and Alison Siu Lead Hong Kong to 31-Run Win Over Malaysia in Tri-Series

Malaysia, led by skipper Winifred Duraisingam, faced Hong Kong, led by skipper Natasha Miles, in the 2nd game at the Mission Road Ground, Mong Kok, Hong Kong, on the opening day of the Tri-series on 7th May 2026. Malaysia had a short turnaround time after they defeated Mingyue Zhu’s China in the opening game of the series, earlier in the day at the same venue.

Hong Kong, led by skipper Natasha Miles, won the toss and opted to bat first, with their openers Shanzeen Shahzad and skipper Natasha Miles also getting their side off to a brisk start with a 43-run opening stand, backing the skipper’s call. Nur Daniya Syuhada broke the stand by sending Shanzeen Shahzad (16 off 24 balls) back to the pavilion in the 8th over of the innings, providing the much-needed first breakthrough for Malaysia.

Yasmin Daswani joined skipper Natasha Miles at the crease, and the pair stitched another vital 58-run stand for the 2nd wicket, which also took them past the 100-run mark. The partnership set a perfect platform for a blockbuster finish. However, Mahirah Izzati Ismail brought Malaysia back into the contest by removing both the set batters Yasmin Daswani (34 off 30 balls) and skipper Natasha Miles (40 off 47 balls) back to the pavilion in the 17th over of the innings. Those vital blows limited the damage to a certain extent.

But, one of the most experienced duos of Kary Chan (18* off 10 balls) and Maryam Bibi (16 off 10 balls) reclaimed the momentum into their innings courtesy of a quick-fire 31-run unbeaten stand for the 5th wicket. The late impetus pushed the Hong Kong total to a competitive 136/4 in their quota of 20 overs. The innings had as many as 12 extras.

Mahirah Izzati Ismail (4-0-21-2), Nur Daniya Syuhada (4-0-27-1), Mas Elysa (4-0-28-1), and Aisya Eleesa (3-0-10-0) were impressive with the ball for Malaysia.

Chasing a decent total of 137, Malaysia were pushed on the back foot early on as the promising pacer Iqra Sahar bowled a maiden to start the defence for Hong Kong. Her new-ball bowling partner, Alison Siu, reaped the immediate rewards of the pressure built by Sahar at the other end, as she dismissed the opposition skipper Winifred Duraisingam for a golden duck on the first ball of her spell, providing a massive first breakthrough for Hong Kong in the 2nd over of the run chase.

The Malaysian top-order failed to break the shackles and get off the blocks in the powerplay. As a result, they were reduced to 18/4 in the 7th over of the run chase. Dhanusri Muhunan joined Mas Elysa at the crease, and the duo led the recovery with a much-needed 30-run partnership for the 5th wicket, which brought them back on track for the run chase.

Kary Chan cleaned up Dhanusri Muhunan (13 off 21 balls) in the 13th over of the run chase to provide the crucial 5th breakthrough for Hong Kong. Nur Daniya Syuhada (19* off 26 balls) joined Mas Elysa at the crease, and the pair tried their best to script a fightback en route to their unbeaten 57-run partnership for the 6th wicket. However, they were unable to guide their side over the line as Malaysia were restricted to 105/5 in their quota of 20 overs, falling 31 runs short of the target.

Mas Elysa registered a fighting half-century 51* (49 balls), her 7th in the format, being the top performer for Malaysia. Alison Siu (4-0-14-2) and Kary Chan (4-0-23-2) picked up a couple of wickets each with the ball for Hong Kong, while Iqra Sahar (4-1-15-1) provided them with a dream start to their defence. Joyleen Kaur (3-0-13-0) was impressive in her spell.

Malaysia’s Mas Elysa, despite being on the losing side, was awarded the Player of the Match for her all-round impact, returning the match figures (4-0-28-1) with the ball, and scoring a crucial 51* (49 balls) with the bat for her side. The comprehensive win took Hong Kong to the top of the points table courtesy of a superior net run rate.
