The Indian women’s cricket team stepped into 2025 with clarity in purpose and consistency in performance. Over the course of twelve months, the team travelled, adapted, fumbled at times but rose again playing a variety of bilateral series and tournaments that tested their depth across formats.

January: A Dominant Start Against Ireland
The year 2025 began with Ireland Women in Rajkot with a three match ODI series against Ireland Women. From the very first game, India were miles ahead. Winning the Series by a clean sweep 3-0. The batters piled on runs with ease, the bowlers struck regularly, and the fielding stayed sharp throughout. The highlight was a massive 304-run victory in the 3rd ODI, one that reflected not just skill but authority. India won the first and second ODI by 6 wickets and 116 runs respectively. A clean sweep in January gave India exactly the kind of start they would have hoped for, confident and commanding.
April–May: Tri-Series
India’s next challenge came in Sri Lanka, where conditions demanded patience and adaptability. Facing Sri Lanka and South Africa in Colombo, India started well, winning comfortably against the hosts by 9 wickets and securing a solid result against South Africa by 15 runs. However, as the tour progressed, close games began slipping away, the third match of India that was played against Sri Lanka slipped away by 3 wickets. Followed by narrow defeats of 23 runs while chasing against South Africa exposed areas that needed attention, especially under pressure. Still, the tour was far from disappointing as the final of the tri series was played between India and Sri Lanka which Women in Blue conquered by 97 runs. This series offered valuable lessons and hardened the team for tougher contests ahead.
July: Tour of England
The England tour in July stood out as one of the most demanding phases of the year. Playing across venues like Nottingham, Bristol, Lord’s, and The Oval, India were tested in every department. India faced England in T20Is and ODIs. Starting with a 5 match T20I series. There were moments of brilliance, a 97-run win at Nottingham in the 1st T20 and a victory by 24 runs at Bristol, the 2nd T20 boosted the team’s confidence but also heartbreak in a tight loss in 3rd T20 by just 5 runs. India won the T20 series against England by 3-2.
A three match ODI series was also scheduled against England that India captured by 2-1. Winning the 1st ODI by 4 wickets but then facing an unfortunate loss by 8 wickets, in the 3rd ODI India jumped back on track with a 13 runs victory that sealed the series. The series was less about results and more about proving that India could compete, session after session, against one of the strongest sides in the world.
September: High-Intensity Battles Against Australia at Home
When Australia arrived in September, the atmosphere changed. Three matches scheduled across New Chandigarh and Delhi turned into intense, high-quality contests. With the ODI World Cup 2025 co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka approaching, this series was very crucial for both the countries. Not had an ideal start in 1st ODI as India faced a 8 wickets loss but India produced one of their finest performances of the year with a 102-run win against Australia in the 2nd ODI, showing both tactical maturity and belief. Australia fought back in the 3rd ODI and built a mammoth of 412 runs for India to chase, ensuring the series remained evenly poised. Australia won the match by 43 runs and series by 2-1 but the back-and-forth nature of the games reflected India’s growing ability to challenge elite teams rather than merely survive against them.
October: ODI World Cup
October brought a hectic stretch, with India playing different teams across venues in Colombo, Visakhapatnam, Indore, and Navi Mumbai. India’s Campaign of The ICC ODI World cup 2025 started with convincing wins including a dominant outing against Asian countries Sri Lanka and Pakistan by 59 runs and 88 runs but things changed after that India narrow defeats that could have gone either way. Two consecutive losses by 3 wickets against South Africa and Australia and a very close loss just by 4 runs against England derailed India’s momentum.
However, they made an effective comeback against New Zealand, a 53 runs victory that brought them a ticket to the semi-final. India pulled off one of the most daring chases in women’s ODI history, holding their nerve to defeat the defending champions Australia by five wickets in a thrilling semifinal of the 2025 Women’s World Cup. They chased down a mammoth 338 in only 48.3 overs and entered the final in style. The grand finale unfolded on November 2 at Dr. DY Patil Sports Stadium, Navi Mumbai, where India etched their name in the record books by securing their first ever ICC Women’s ODI World Cup triumph, overpowering South Africa by 52 runs.
December: Ending the Year Strong in T20Is
India closed the year with a home T20I series against Sri Lanka, split between Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram. The shorter format suited India well. The team played with freedom, chasing targets comfortably and defending totals with discipline. Women in Blue crowned their unstoppable home campaign with a flawless 5-0 series whitewash over Sri Lanka Women, clinching a heart stopping 15-run win in the decisive fifth T20I in Thiruvananthapuram on December 30, 2025. The result not only perfected their year but also sparked surging confidence for the 2026 T20 World Cup challenge.
By the end of 2025, India had played 23 ODIs, winning 15, losing 7, with one no result a reflection of steady progress and consistency. In T20Is, eight wins from ten matches highlighted the team’s strength in the shortest format.
India’s 2025 season ended with claiming the World Champion Title and that’s what made it even more memorable. There were dominant wins, narrow losses, and hard lessons learned away from home. More importantly, there was growth. The team looked composed, competitive, and increasingly fearless, closing the year not just with results, but with momentum.
