Durham Women’s innings did not begin perfectly as Katherine Fraser departed early for just 1, trapped by Alex Griffiths with only 3 runs on the board. However, Tahlia Wilson responded positively and stitched together an important rebuilding partnership with captain Hollie Armitage. Wilson looked fluent during her 23 from 31 deliveries, striking four boundaries before Niamh Holland removed her at 54/2 in the 10th over. Armitage then took charge of the innings with a composed knock that anchored Durham through the middle phase of the match.

Armitage and Mady Villiers added a valuable 64-run stand for the third wicket, frustrating Somerset’s bowlers with smart rotation and calculated aggression. Villiers contributed a patient 34 from 54 balls before Chloe Skelton broke the stand at 118/3. Emily Windsor then joined Armitage and ensured the momentum remained with Durham. The pair added another 38 runs before Windsor was dismissed for 23, caught off Lola Harris at 156/4 in the 32nd over.

Even after losing wickets, Durham continued to accelerate through the efforts of Mia Rogers and Bess Heath. Rogers played one of the most impactful innings of the match, scoring 56 from just 51 balls with nine boundaries at a strike rate above 109. Her partnership with Heath completely shifted the pressure back onto Somerset. Heath was equally destructive, smashing 51 from only 34 deliveries, including seven fours and a six. Their aggressive 69-run stand lifted Durham beyond the 220-run mark and ensured a powerful finish to the innings.

After Heath fell at 252/6, Durham still found late runs through Grace Thompson’s unbeaten 16 and Trudy Johnson’s unbeaten 2, while Abigail Glen added 4. Armitage’s well-crafted 58 from 83 balls remained the backbone of the innings as Durham closed on a competitive 292/8 from their 50 overs. Extras also played a role, contributing 24 runs.

Somerset’s bowling attack had mixed success during the innings. Alex Griffiths and Chloe Skelton picked up two wickets each and were among the more controlled bowlers during crucial periods. Lola Harris also claimed two wickets, including the important scalp of Emily Windsor, while Niamh Holland and Jasmine Westley chipped in with one wicket apiece. Despite regular breakthroughs, Somerset struggled to contain Durham in the closing overs as the scoring rate climbed rapidly.

Chasing 293, Somerset Women started cautiously but soon found themselves under pressure when Rebecca Odgers fell for 9 at 19/1. Niamh Holland and Anika Learoyd attempted to rebuild, but Katie Levick struck to remove Learoyd for 9, leaving Somerset at 40/2. Holland continued to battle hard and found support from captain Sophie Luff as the pair added a steady partnership worth 64 runs. Luff contributed 32 from 50 balls while Holland played confidently through the innings, reaching an impressive 67 from 73 deliveries with eight boundaries.

Just when Somerset appeared capable of mounting a challenge, Durham’s bowlers tightened their grip. Sophie Luff was stumped off Katherine Fraser, and shortly afterwards Jess Hazell was bowled by Levick for 2. The defining moment came when Katie Jones was trapped lbw by Levick for a first-ball duck, reducing Somerset to 113/5. Holland’s dismissal for 67 at 131/6 effectively ended Somerset’s hopes of a successful chase.

From there, the innings unraveled quickly despite brief resistance from Alex Griffiths, who scored 19, and Chloe Skelton, who added 18. Trudy Johnson removed Skelton, while Levick continued her outstanding spell by dismissing Griffiths, Bea Willis, and Lola Harris to complete a superb six-wicket haul. Somerset were eventually bowled out for 172 in 38.3 overs.

Katie Levick was undoubtedly the star with the ball, producing exceptional figures of 6/37 from 9.3 overs and completely dominating the middle and lower order. Trudy Johnson provided excellent support with 2/29, while Mady Villiers and Katherine Fraser claimed one wicket each. Durham’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure throughout the chase, ensuring the large target always remained out of Somerset’s reach.
