Francesca Sweet, Amanda-Jade Wellington Star in Hampshire Women’s 16-Run Win Against Yorkshire

Hampshire Women held their nerve in a rain-affected contest to register a thrilling 16-run victory via the DLS method against Yorkshire Women in the 30th Match of the ECB Women’s One-Day Cup 2026. In a game where momentum swung repeatedly between both sides, Hampshire Women produced a composed batting effort before their bowlers stepped up at crucial intervals to deny Yorkshire Women in the chase. The contest featured several impactful partnerships, steady middle-order contributions, and disciplined spells with the ball, making it one of the most competitive fixtures of the tournament.

After being asked to bat first in the reduced 38-over contest, Hampshire Women were off to a promising start, with the duo stitching together a fluent 62-run partnership for the opening wicket, setting a strong platform with smart strike rotation and timely boundaries. McCaughan looked particularly assured during her 51-run knock off 68 deliveries, striking six fours and anchoring the innings beautifully. Southby complemented her well with a brisk 31 from 36 balls, also hitting six boundaries before falling to Ines Blackwell. Abi Norgrove struggled to find rhythm and departed for 5 off 15 balls, leaving the side at 2/71 in the 15th over. However, Ella McCaughan and skipper Rhianna Southby ensured the innings never lost stability.

Yorkshire Women kept chipping away through Jess Jonassen, who delivered a superb spell in the middle overs. Jonassen dismissed Abi Norgrove, Georgia Adams, and Naomi Dattani to finish with excellent figures of 3/24 from her eight overs at an economy of just 3.00. Her intervention reduced Hampshire Women from a stable position to 93/4 in the 22nd over. Maddie Ward also contributed with a wicket, while Beth Langston and Ines Blackwell claimed one scalp each to keep Hampshire from accelerating too quickly.

Just when Yorkshire sensed an opportunity to dominate, Francesca Sweet and Amanda-Jade Wellington turned the innings around with a crucial middle-order stand. Sweet played an elegant knock of 50 off 57 balls, striking five boundaries and ensuring the innings regained momentum after the cluster of wickets. Wellington, meanwhile, provided the late acceleration with a dynamic unbeaten 41 from only 27 deliveries at a strike rate above 150.

Their partnership frustrated Yorkshire’s bowlers and shifted pressure back onto the fielding side. The pair added valuable runs in the death overs before Sweet fell in the 38th over. Megan Sturge chipped in with a quick run-a-ball single before being run out, while Poppy Tulloch remained unbeaten at the end. Hampshire Women eventually closed on 205/7 from 38 overs, a total that looked competitive given the slowing conditions and disciplined Yorkshire bowling effort.

In reply, Yorkshire Women began positively despite losing Georgie Boyce for 22 in the 13th over. Captain Lauren Winfield-Hill anchored the chase early with a composed 35 from 38 balls that included six boundaries. Alongside Boyce, she added 63 runs for the first wicket, laying a promising foundation in pursuit of the revised DLS target of 213. However, Hampshire Women’s bowlers slowly dragged themselves back into the contest through timely breakthroughs.

Naomi Dattani proved vital with the ball, dismissing both Boyce and Sterre Kalis to end with figures of 2/35 from six overs. Kalis was Yorkshire’s standout batter during the chase, crafting a patient 46 from 60 balls while attempting to rebuild after the early wickets. Jess Jonassen briefly threatened with a quick 7, but Poppy Tulloch trapped her to halt Yorkshire’s momentum. The middle phase saw Yorkshire slip from 63/1 to 85/4 as Hampshire tightened their grip through disciplined bowling and sharp fielding.

Ami Campbell’s brief stay ended after scoring 5, while Ines Blackwell managed 11 before becoming Bex Tyson’s second wicket. Tyson delivered a valuable spell of 2/41 from her eight overs, striking at important moments to break Yorkshire’s developing partnerships. Georgia Adams also contributed with the wicket of Campbell, while Amanda-Jade Wellington impressed with her control, conceding just 31 runs in her full quota and removing Lauren Winfield-Hill.

Despite the collapse, Yorkshire Women continued fighting through lower-order partnerships. Beth Langston produced an entertaining unbeaten 26 from 21 balls, while Grace Hall remained not out on 21 off 15 deliveries to keep the chase alive in the closing overs. Their late stand added urgency and briefly threatened Hampshire’s control, but the mounting required rate and regular wickets proved costly. Claudie Cooper added 6 before being run out by Ella McCaughan, effectively ending Yorkshire’s hopes.

Hampshire Women’s bowlers collectively delivered an impressive team performance under pressure. Dattani and Tyson picked up two wickets apiece, while Wellington, Tulloch, and Adams each contributed with one wicket. Daisy Gibb also bowled economically, conceding just 30 runs from her seven overs and building pressure during crucial middle overs. Yorkshire Women eventually finished on 196/8 from 38 overs, falling 16 runs short on the DLS calculation.
