Uganda Women started their batting innings with cautious enthusiasm, managing to score 100 for 6 in their 20 overs, setting a target that Canada would have to chase down. While 100 runs might not seem monumental in the T20 format, given the dimensions of this ground and the conditions, it was a defendable score as long as their bowlers performed well, and Uganda aimed to leverage their home advantage.

Key contributions for Uganda came from Stephani Nampiina, who remained not out on 23 runs from 18 balls, striking at over 127.77. Her late innings provided much-needed momentum, pushing the team past the 90-mark. Immaculate Nakisuuyi and Kevin Awino also chipped in with valuable contributions, scoring 12 off 15 and 21 off 27 runs respectively. However, the wicket of opener Janet Mbabazi (20), who fell at the score of 57 at the 12.2 over mark, showed that Uganda couldn’t fully assert their dominance.

On the Canadian side, the bowlers managed to create pressure phases. Vandana Mahajan delivered an impressive spell, conceding just 12 runs while taking 2 wickets in her 4 overs. Terisha Lavia also kept it tight, allowing only 10 runs in her 2 overs, reflecting the potency of Canada’s bowling attack at times. Nonetheless, Uganda’s batters did enough to post a competitive total.

When Canada began their chase of 101 runs, things never quite clicked for them. They struggled to build partnerships and ultimately fell short, finishing at 82 runs in 18.3 overs, which handed Uganda an 18-run victory. The regular loss of wickets stifled any chance of a sustained fightback, and as the required run rate climbed, the pressure mounted.

Among Canada’s efforts, Amarpal Kaur stood out with a 28-run contribution off 37 balls, including three boundaries. Despite her solid attempt to guide the team, the lack of support from her teammates proved detrimental. Canada faced further troubles due to run-outs and tight bowling from the Ugandan attack. Kevin Amuge was particularly effective, taking 3 wickets for just 7 runs in 3.3 overs, while Rita Musamali claimed 2 for 12 from her 2 overs.

Uganda Women defeated Canada Women by 18 runs at the Lugogo Cricket Oval in the WT20I series, bolstered by a solid innings of 100 for 6, primarily led by Stephani Nampiina’s unbeaten 24, and a sharp bowling performance that restricted Canada to just 82 runs. Uganda’s balance of batting, bowling, and fielding makes this win significant in the larger context of women’s associate cricket.
