Australia Women began their innings with intent, as Georgia Voll set the tone early with a fluent 39 off 23 balls, striking six boundaries and a six at an impressive strike rate of 169.56. She shared a brisk opening partnership of 54 runs with Beth Mooney, who contributed 17 off 20 balls before falling to Afy Fletcher in the 9th over, leaving Australia at 71/2. Voll’s aggressive approach ensured momentum stayed with Australia, but her dismissal at 54 (5.6 overs) gave West Indies an opening.

The middle phase saw Phoebe Litchfield (35 off 29) and Ellyse Perry steady the innings with a crucial 58-run partnership for the third wicket. Litchfield’s composed knock, featuring three boundaries, helped anchor the innings, while Perry shifted gears brilliantly. After Litchfield fell at 129 in the 16th over, Perry took charge, smashing 42 off just 28 balls, including six boundaries, at a strike rate of 150. Her knock ensured Australia remained on course for a competitive total.

Late contributions from Georgia Wareham (11 off 8), Nicola Carey (9* off 5), and Tahlia McGrath (5* off 7) pushed Australia to 164/5 in 20 overs, with a run rate of 8.20. For West Indies Women, the bowling effort was shared across the unit. Deandra Dottin was effective, picking up 1/30 in her 4 overs, while Hayley Matthews (1/33), Jahzara Claxton (1/24), and Karishma Ramharack (1/21) chipped in with crucial wickets. Afy Fletcher also claimed a wicket, finishing with 1/32, as the bowlers managed to prevent a late onslaught.

Chasing 165, West Indies Women had a shaky start when Qiana Joseph was run out for 11 at 13 (3.3 overs), courtesy of sharp fielding from Voll and Mooney. However, captain Hayley Matthews led from the front with a commanding 56 off 41 balls, laced with seven fours and three sixes. She stitched together a vital 77-run partnership with Stafanie Taylor, who made 22 off 27 balls, stabilizing the innings after the early setback.

The turning point came when Matthews was dismissed at 90 (12.1 overs), caught off Alana King, breaking the backbone of the chase. Taylor followed soon after at 104 (14.5 overs), leaving West Indies needing acceleration in the death overs. Despite a spirited unbeaten 39 off 28 balls from Deandra Dottin, who struck two fours and two sixes, the required rate kept climbing. Shemaine Campbelle (6 off 9) fell at 113 in the 18th over, and although Jahzara Claxton remained unbeaten on 5, West Indies could only reach 147/4 in their 20 overs, falling short by 17 runs.

Australia’s bowling unit delivered collectively under pressure. Alana King was the standout, claiming 2/25 in her 4 overs, including the crucial wicket of Matthews. Georgia Wareham supported well with 1/16 in 3 overs, while economical spells from Kim Garth (0/20 in 4 overs) and others ensured the run flow was restricted. Though wickets were shared sparingly, the disciplined lines and tight fielding made the difference.
