The Rose Bowl Trophy has been one of the long-standing cricketing rivalries between the women’s teams of Australia and New Zealand. Introduced in 1985, the trophy represents one of the oldest bilateral series in women’s cricket. New Zealand last won the trophy in 1999 before Australia took it back in 2000 and has retained the trophy since then.
The previous occasion when both sides met in the ODI format was during the 2022 ODI World Cup held in New Zealand. Notably the game was played at Bain Reserve with Australia posting 269 on the board batting first and bowled New Zealand out for 128, resulting in a 141-run dominating win in the group stage match.
The last bilateral series between both sides was played in April 2021 hosted by New Zealand, which Australia clinched 3-0.
The three-match ODI series between Australia and New Zealand is part of the ongoing 2022/23- 2025 ICC Women’s ODI Championship. Australia is bolstered by the return of their regular skipper Alyssa Healy while the series will be vital for the hosts as the top five teams qualify for the 2025 World Cup and they currently are number six in the table yet to receive their qualification for the World Cup. Australia is at the top of the table with 16 wins and three losses while New Zealand has won nine matches and lost ten games.
Head-to-Head in the ODI format, Australia has a supreme record over White Ferns with 100 wins whereas New Zealand has 31 victories to their name.
