The ongoing 8th edition of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup got underway on the 1st of October and below we brief you on the action from day 8, Sri Lanka vs Malaysia face-off. The game witnessed the former batting first put on a below-par total, but went on to defend their total in an emphatic fashion by bowling the latter out for a cheap total.

Sri Lanka opting to bat first had a poor start as in-form Harshitha Madavi departed early on 3(7) and as the side lost a couple more quick wicketsin Hasini Perera on 5(7) and Kaushani Nuthyangana on 1(5), the side closed out their powerplay on a score of 23/3. Starts from opener, Chamari Athapaththu, and Nilakshi de Silva pushed the side’s total to 41/3. Chamari just when clicked, departed early on the score of 21(34) and the side lost a couple of wickets in no time as Anushka Sanjeewani on 2(4) was run out and Nilakshi departed on 21(23) with 61 on board. Malsha Shehani got a couple away to fence, but was the next to depart on 14(14) with 87 on board. The pair of Oshadi Ranasinghe and Sugandhika Kumari finished unbeaten on respective scores of 23(18) and 7(8) in guiding the team to a total of 105/7.
Malaysia with the ball had Sasha Azmi register the best spell of 4-0-10-2 and the rest among the wickets were Ainna Hamizah with a couple, Aisya Eleesa and Mahira Izzati with a wicket each to their name.
Malaysia in reply had a poor start as skipper Winifred Duraisingam when departed on 6(12), was followed by Mas Elysa on 0(1), Mahira Izzati on 0(2) and Ainna Hamizah on 4(12) which saw the side with a score of 23/4 at the end of the powerplay. Elsa Hunter kept the scorecard ticking on an end and lost a partner more in Nurilyaa Natasya on 0(3), but was the next to depart on 18(15) which saw the side further sink as the scorecard read 33/6 inside 8 overs. Sasha Azmi next walked back on the score of 1(6) and Malsha Shehani bowling the 10th over dismissed; Nur Arianna on 0(2), Aisya Eleesa on 0(1) and then dismissed the final Malaysian wicket of Nur Dania on 0(3) to hand her side the victory a lot earlier.
Sri Lanka with the ball had Malsha Shehani with the best figures of 1.5-0-2-4, Inoka Ranaweera and Sugandhika Kumari with a couple of wickets each to their name, while Oshadi Ranasinghe finished with a wicket.
