The afternoon in Bangi witnessed a disciplined and commanding performance from Oman Women as they outclassed Philippines Women by 44 runs in the 28th match of the ACC Women’s Premier Cup. Rather than an explosive start, it was a measured innings built on partnerships, calculated risks, and timely acceleration that eventually helped Oman Women post a competitive 141/6 in 20 overs, before their bowlers completed the job by restricting Philippines Women to 97/8 in their chase. The contest showcased strong middle-order batting, crucial partnerships, and an all-round bowling effort, making it a memorable display in women’s T20 cricket.

Opting to bat first after Philippines Women elected to field, Oman Women had to navigate an early setback despite a positive opening approach. Jayadhanhya Gunasekar looked composed from the outset and played a stabilising hand at the top of the order. However, Oman lost the first wicket at 31 in 5.6 overs when Nitya Joshi, who contributed 13 off 20 balls, was dismissed after sharing a steady 31-run opening partnership. Though the innings lacked early fireworks, the partnership gave Oman Women a solid platform to build on.
Gunasekar continued to hold one end firmly and found support from the in-form Fiza Javed, who played arguably the most influential knock of the innings. Together, the duo added 46 runs for the second wicket, taking Oman Women from 31 to 77 and gradually shifting momentum in their favour. Gunasekar’s valuable 37 off 38 deliveries, including five boundaries, ended in the 13th over, but her innings had already laid the foundation for a competitive total.
Fiza Javed then took greater responsibility and accelerated smartly through the middle overs. Displaying excellent intent and timing, she scored a fluent 43 off 35 balls, smashing four boundaries and maintaining a strike rate of 122.85. Her contribution came at a crucial stage and was complemented by captain Priyanka Mendonca, who chipped in with 7 runs from 9 balls. The pair stitched together a useful 30-run stand for the third wicket, helping Oman maintain scoring momentum.
Even after Mendonca’s dismissal at 107/3 in 15.2 overs, Oman Women ensured there was no collapse. Amanda D’Costa played a calm finishing role with an unbeaten 16 off 14 balls, while Sameera Khan added a brisk 4 off 3 deliveries. Oman Women kept the scoreboard ticking despite wickets falling at regular intervals. Fiza’s wicket at 120/4, followed by Sameera Khan at 125/5 and Javed Hina for 1, briefly slowed the innings, but Oman still managed to finish strongly at 141/6, aided significantly by 20 extras, including 17 wides, which proved costly for Philippines Women.
From the bowling perspective, Philippines Women had moments of promise but struggled with consistency. Katie Donovan emerged as the standout bowler, delivering a disciplined spell of 4 overs, 25 runs, and 1 wickets. Kyte Gullem Keen also contributed effectively with 1 wicket for 24 runs in 3 overs, while Karri Gullem Keen picked up 1 wicket for 30 runs. Jhon Andreano impressed with an economical spell of 1/18 in 3 overs, whereas Elyza Wall conceded just 14 runs in her 3 overs, although she remained wicketless. Reyven Castillo claimed 1 wicket but proved slightly expensive, conceding 28 runs.
Chasing 142 for victory, Philippines Women began with aggressive intent, thanks largely to Amelia Valdez, who attacked from the outset. She smashed 25 runs off only 14 balls, including two boundaries, giving her side an early spark. Alongside Elyza Wall, the opening pair added 29 runs in just 3.6 overs, briefly raising hopes of a competitive chase. However, Oman Women struck back quickly when Amanda D’Costa dismissed Valdez, triggering a steady collapse.
Elyza Wall attempted to anchor the innings and fought hard for her 20 off 39 balls, but lacked sustained support from the other end. Karri Gullem Keen scored 6 from 6 deliveries, while wicketkeeper Zoe Isabela Wong managed only 2 runs. Oman’s disciplined bowling made scoring increasingly difficult as wickets fell consistently. Captain Katie Donovan tried to revive the chase with 18 off 22 balls, sharing useful partnerships in the middle overs, but Oman’s bowlers kept breaking momentum.
The middle order failed to accelerate under pressure. Jessica Medianesta added 11 runs from 13 balls, Jomae Masaya scored 6, and Reyven Castillo contributed 5, but none of the batters could convert starts into impactful innings. Philippines Women eventually finished on 97/8 in 20 overs, falling short by 44 runs.
Oman Women’s bowling attack was clinical and disciplined throughout the innings. Amanda D’Costa, who was later named Player of the Match, starred with the ball, producing an outstanding spell of 4/21 in 4 overs, dismantling the Philippines batting line-up at key intervals. Jayadhanhya Gunasekar delivered economically and claimed 1 wicket for just 12 runs in 4 overs, while Sushanthika Sathiya returned figures of 1/23 in 4 overs. Fiza Javed chipped in with 1 wicket for 7 runs in 2 overs, maintaining pressure during the death overs. Although Priyanka Mendonca, Sameera Khan, and Afida Afthab went wicketless, they collectively maintained tight lines and restricted scoring opportunities.
