In a commanding display at the ACC Women’s Premier Cup 2026, Japan Women vs Mongolia Women turned into a one-sided contest as Japan Women produced a polished all-round performance to secure a convincing 116-run victory at Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur. After being asked to bat first, Japan’s batters stitched together impactful partnerships before their disciplined bowling attack dismantled Mongolia’s chase with clinical precision.

Japan Women’s innings did not begin with outright dominance, but there was enough intent from the opening pair to establish momentum. Haruna Iwasaki came out aggressively and wasted little time in finding boundaries, striking 15 off just 9 balls, including a six and a four at a brisk strike rate of 166.66. Alongside her, Erika Oda played a calmer hand, rotating strike smartly as the duo added 23 runs for the opening wicket. Mongolia found their first breakthrough in the third over when Oyunsuvd Amarjargal removed Iwasaki, giving her side an early opening.
Despite losing the first wicket, Japan Women kept the scoreboard moving. Oda and captain Mai Yanagida added 19 runs for the second wicket, stabilizing the innings after the early breakthrough. Oda chipped in with 18 runs from 18 deliveries, hitting two boundaries before she was dismissed by Myagmarzaya Batnasan, leaving Japan at 42/2.
The match-changing moment came through a brilliant partnership between skipper Yanagida and star batter Ayaka Kato-Stafford. The duo completely shifted the momentum with a crucial 96-run stand for the third wicket, frustrating Mongolia’s bowlers and accelerating at the perfect time. Yanagida anchored the innings beautifully with 28 off 30 balls, striking two boundaries before being run out in the 16th over. However, by then, Japan had already taken complete control.
At the centre of the innings stood Ayaka Kato-Stafford, whose sparkling knock proved decisive in the Japan Women cricket match. Playing with confidence and precision, she smashed 84 runs from 56 balls, decorated with 10 fours, maintaining a strike rate of 150.00. Her aggressive strokeplay dismantled Mongolia’s bowling attack and ensured Japan finished strongly. She later added 47 runs for the fourth wicket with Kurumi Ota, who remained unbeaten on 13 from 9 balls, contributing two boundaries.
After Kato-Stafford departed at 185/4 in 19.3 overs, Seika Sumi joined Ota and stayed unbeaten on 3 off 3 balls, with the pair adding the finishing touches through an unbeaten 3-run stand. Japan concluded their 20 overs on 188/4, boosted further by 27 extras, which included wides and no-balls.
For Mongolia Women, the bowlers showed fighting spirit despite the challenging conditions. Oyunsuvd Amarjargal was among the wicket-takers, finishing with 1/30 in four overs, while Myagmarzaya Batnasan also picked up 1/31. Javzandulam Tugsjargal grabbed an important scalp with figures of 1/21, although bowlers like Sunjidmaa Phillips (0/44) and Ganbold Urjindulam (0/16) struggled to contain Japan’s accelerating batting lineup. Uugansuvd Bayarjavkhlan remained economical with 0/12 from two overs, while Battur Unenchtseceg conceded 28 runs in three overs.
Chasing a daunting target of 189, Mongolia Women never really found their rhythm as Japan’s bowlers applied pressure from the outset. Nomin-Erdene Erdenebat fell cheaply for 2, dismissed by Nonoha Yasumoto, with Mongolia slipping to 2/1 inside the first over. Batiargal Ichinkhorloo tried to steady the innings with a patient 13 off 47 balls, but wickets kept tumbling around her. Oyunsuvd Amarjargal contributed 5, while captain Gansuk Anujin managed 4, as Mongolia slipped to 18/3 and then 28/4.
A brief resistance came through Javzandulam Tugsjargal (6) and later Myagmarzaya Batnasan, who top-scored with 12 from 16 balls, helping Mongolia edge past fifty. Yet Japan’s bowling attack remained relentless. Mamta Kaswan emerged as the standout performer with a superb spell of 3/12 in four overs, constantly breaking partnerships and keeping the scoring rate in check. Nonoha Yasumoto was equally effective, returning 2/9, while Ayaka Kato-Stafford complemented her batting heroics with 1/4 from three overs. Kurumi Ota (1/11) also chipped in, while Elena Kusuda-Nairn (0/15) and Ayumi Fujikawa (0/18) maintained tight lines.
Late unbeaten efforts from Enkhbold Khaliunaa (11*) and Battur Unenchtseceg (1*) only delayed the inevitable as Mongolia Women finished on 72/8 in 20 overs, falling well short. Thanks to her brilliant all-round influence led by an explosive 84-run innings, Ayaka Kato-Stafford was deservedly named Player of the Match, sealing a memorable win for Japan Women.
