The fifth edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will run from January 14 to February 7, 2027, with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru facing Mumbai Indians in Vadodara’s opening fixture. Vadodara’s International Cricket Stadium stages the first 11 league matches from January 14–24. After a day’s break, Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium hosts nine league fixtures from January 26–February 3, followed by the February 5 Eliminator and February 7 final. Both cities therefore host 11 games.

The championship narrative remains compelling. Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians won the inaugural edition in 2023 and reclaimed the crown in 2025. Smriti Mandhana’s RCB ended the franchise’s 17-year championship wait in 2024 before securing their second WPL title in 2026. Delhi Capitals, runners-up in all four editions, return seeking the breakthrough that has repeatedly eluded them.

The October 28, 2026 mini-auction at Grand Hyatt, Kochi, saw 25 players sold against 27 available slots. Australia skipper Sophie Molineux commanded the highest price, joining UP Warriorz for ₹1.10 crore. Delhi Capitals secured Kiran Navgire for ₹75 lakh, making her the most expensive Indian purchase.

RCB acquired Jess Jonassen for ₹40 lakh, while Gujarat Giants signed Orla Prendergast at her ₹30 lakh base price, making her the first Irish player picked in the WPL. Shweta Sehrawat moved to Mumbai Indians for ₹20 lakh, and Grace Harris returned to UP Warriorz for ₹30 lakh. Notable unsold names included Charli Knott, Uma Chetry, Raghvi Bisht, Gautami Naik, Bree Illing, Esha Oza, Parunika Sisodia, Shabnam Shakil, Sarah Bryce, Samantha Bates, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Saika Ishaque, Chamari Athapaththu, Priya Mishra, Titas Sadhu and Sophia Dunkley.

England’s white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, including three-match T20Is followed by a three-match ODI series from 1st to 5th February 2027 (T20I leg), overlaps the closing stages. The ODI leg will take place from 4th to 8th March 2027, after the conclusion of the inaugural T20 Champions Trophy from 14th to 27th February 2027 hosted by India at the same WPL venues.
