India batter Jemimah Rodrigues has shared a positive update after nearly three months of recovery from a hamstring injury. On 31 October, she confirmed that her hamstring had been declared fit following rehabilitation. This puts her in contention to return during India’s multi-format tour of South Africa in December. The injury had kept her away from cricket since August and forced her to miss several assignments. She will now look towards the tour as a possible chance to play for India again.

The injury happened on 3 August, when Rodrigues was representing Southern Brave in The Hundred in Cardiff. She hurt her right hamstring during the competition. The BCCI medical team later diagnosed it as a high-grade tear. As a result, she was ruled out of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup in the UAE and the Asian Games in Japan. India went on to win both tournaments, but Rodrigues could not take part in either campaign.
Her absence continued during India’s home series against Zimbabwe, which she also missed. India secured 3-0 victories in both the ODI and T20I formats. Rodrigues’ last international appearance had come in June, when India lost to Australia at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England. She has not played for the national side since that match. The injury in August extended her time away and ruled her out of the Zimbabwe fixtures as well.
On Friday, Rodrigues shared her recovery news on Instagram. She confirmed that her hamstring had been declared fit after three months of rehabilitation and said she was eager to return. Her caption read: “Hamstring has been declared fit. After 3 months of rehab. Now I can’t wait to get going,” The update marks an important step, although it does not confirm her selection for India’s next tour. She is now in contention for the December series.
Rodrigues has scored 2824 runs in T20I cricket at a strike-rate of 119, making her India’s fourth-highest run-getter in the format. The right-hand batter is an important part of the middle order. Her absence has covered the Asia Cup, the Asian Games and the Zimbabwe series, following her last international outing against Australia. With her fitness update now public, attention will turn to a possible return during India’s next assignment.
India are scheduled to tour South Africa in December for a multi-format series. The programme includes one Test, three ODIs and three T20Is. Rodrigues is in contention to make her comeback during the tour after completing her rehabilitation. However, confirmation that her hamstring is fit does not mean she has been selected or will feature in the matches. The South Africa series is her next opportunity to return to international cricket.
The injury she sustained on 3 August while playing for Southern Brave in Cardiff kept Rodrigues out for nearly three months. The BCCI medical team diagnosed a high-grade tear in her right hamstring, ruling her out of two tournaments that India went on to win and the Zimbabwe home series. India also recorded 3-0 victories in both formats against Zimbabwe. Her last international appearance remains the defeat to Australia in June. With her hamstring now declared fit, Rodrigues will look towards December as her next chance to return and play for India again.
