Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet India’s Asian Games contingent at his residence in New Delhi on October 15 at 4:30 pm. The ceremony will honour athletes who represented the country at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. India’s women’s cricket team will be among those recognised after winning gold and retaining its title. The gathering will include medal winners from several sports, and India’s men’s team will also be recognised.

India finished fourth in the overall medal standings, collecting 85 medals, including 21 golds. The country moved up from eighth place to fourth, matching its position at the previous edition in Hangzhou. Archery, wrestling, boxing, hockey, athletics and shooting contributed to the tally. Both the men’s and women’s hockey teams won gold, adding to India’s achievements in team sports. The felicitation will recognise athletes who helped India finish fourth.
India’s women’s cricket campaign began with an eight-wicket quarter-final win over Japan. Japan were dismissed for 57, with Shree Charani taking four wickets for 10 runs in four overs, including two maidens. Shafali Verma then scored 40 off 15 balls to help India complete the chase in five overs. She also took two wickets. Her performance with both bat and ball helped India move into the semi-final.
In the semi-final against Bangladesh, India scored 195/4 before bowling out their opponents for 81, winning by 114 runs. Shafali continued her strong form and finished the tournament as its leading run-scorer with 188 runs. The victory secured India’s place in the gold-medal match against Sri Lanka. The result brought the team one step closer to defending its title.
India then faced Sri Lanka in the final and won by 147 runs to claim gold. Batting first, India made 216/3 in 20 overs before dismissing Sri Lanka for 69 in 15.4 overs. Smriti Mandhana led the innings with 79 off 45 balls, hitting five fours and seven sixes. Richa Ghosh added an unbeaten 49 from 22 balls. With the ball, Deepti Sharma took three wickets for six runs in four overs, including a maiden.
Mandhana’s innings helped set a challenging total, Richa added quick runs at the end, and Deepti’s spell restricted Sri Lanka’s reply. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her teammates will be honoured alongside other medallists. Their 147-run win added another gold to India’s total of 21. The team’s successful title defence was one of the highlights of India’s campaign.
India’s men’s cricket team also won gold and will also be honoured. Captain Shreyas Iyer will be among the players honoured. Ishan Kishan scored 80 off 46 balls in the semi-final against Sri Lanka, helping India reach the final. In the gold-medal match against Pakistan, Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 51 off 22 balls. India won that final by 19 runs, adding another cricket gold to its overall medal tally.
The October 15 ceremony will celebrate India’s fourth-place finish with 85 medals. It will bring together medal winners from different sports, recognising the effort behind India’s results and the contribution of athletes who represented the country in Japan. For the women’s team, the event will recognise a campaign shaped by Charani’s early wickets, Shafali’s batting, Mandhana’s innings, Richa’s late runs and Deepti’s bowling. Their victory over Sri Lanka secured gold and retained the title.
Kishan’s semi-final performance and Tilak’s unbeaten final innings will also be notable highlights as both cricket teams join athletes from other sports at the felicitation. The occasion will recognise both teams alongside all other medallists. The ceremony will include athletes from across India.
