Australia’s women’s team are set for a busy October, with the Governor-General’s XI match against New Zealand followed by series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. Nicole Faltum will lead the Governor-General’s XI in Sydney. The 13-player squad includes emerging players. Lucy Hamilton returns from the quad injury that ruled her out of the Bangladesh ODIs. Tayla Vlaeminck is also selected.

Chloe Ainsworth, who received her first Cricket Australia contract this year, has been named. Six Australia A players returned from India: Faltum, Vlaeminck, Anika Learoyd, Rachel Treneman, Frankie Nicklin and Charli Knott. Faltum will captain the side for the second time after leading against England in early 2025, while Knott is vice-captain. Nicklin, Bray, Gill and Queensland’s 17-year-old rookie-contracted Filippa SueSee are first-time selections. Lieutenant Meera Hyderabad is a wicketkeeper-batter and Artillery Officer in the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery.
Shawn Flegler said, “For these players, matches against an international side are an invaluable chance to challenge themselves at a higher level and gain experience in an environment that replicates the demands of international cricket.” He added, “There’s a really exciting mix of youth and experience in the squad, with players who have performed strongly at domestic level getting the opportunity to test themselves against one of the world’s leading teams.” New Zealand will be led by Amelia Kerr after Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates and Lea Tahuhu retired at the end of the T20 World Cup in July.
The Governor-General’s XI match has been played before multi-format series in January or February. This year, it is scheduled at the start of 2026-27 and will coincide with the T20 Spring Challenge, which runs before the WBBL and features eight clubs alongside the ACT. The match is free, non-ticketed and broadcast live on Kayo Sports and Fox Cricket. For the third summer, Governor-General Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC will lead the GG’s XI.
