Germany, led by skipper Asmita Kohli, were up against Sweden, led by skipper Kanchan Rana, in the opening game of the Nordic Women’s T20 Cup opener at GelsenTrabPark, Gelsenkirchen on 28th August 2026.
Sweden skipper Kanchan Rana won the toss and elected to field first. The game was eventually reduced to 11 overs per side due to rain. The Germany openers Aanvi Kishore and Wilhelmina Hornero-Garcia got their side off to a positive start with a 44-run opening stand. Hariharan Shreya broke the stand by sending Aanvi Kishore (20 off 18 balls) back to the pavilion in the 6th over of the innings to provide the much-needed 1st breakthrough for Sweden.
Germany were reduced to 53/3 in the 8th over of the innings. Skipper Asmita Kohli joined the opening batter Wilhelmina Hornero-Garcia at the crease and the duo stitched a crucial 24-run partnership for the 4th wicket. Dipika Chhetri got the big scalp of the opposition skipper Asmita Kohli 12 off 9 balls) in the 10th over of the innings to provide the crucial 4th breakthrough for her side. Germany posted a strong total of 93/6 in their quota of 11 overs.
Wilhelmina Hornero-Garcia stayed unbeaten on 35* (25 balls). The innings had as many as 14 extras. Hariharan Shreya (3-0-17-3), skipper Kanchan Rana (2-0-25-1) and Dipika Chhetri (1-0-6-1) were the only wicket-takers with the ball for Sweden.
Chasing a potential target of 94, Sweden lost the wicket of their wicket-keeper batter Elsa Thelander for a golden duck in the 1st over of the run chase. Rameesha Shahid provided the first breakthrough for Germany. Eman Asim (28* off 26 balls) joined the opening batter Anya Vaidya (25* off 17 balls) at the crease, and the duo were leading the recovery with a massive unbeaten 69-run stand for the 2nd wicket.
The rain gods made a re-appearance in the 8th over of the run chase. However, Sweden were well ahead of the DLS par score, which was 58 at the time of the rain interval. The persistent nature of the rains ensured that there was no further play possible. The innings had as many as 18 extras, which eventually proved to be decisive for the Asmita Kohli-led side as Sweden sealed the game by 14 runs.
Rameesha Shahid (3-0-29-1) was the only wicket-taker with the ball for Germany, while Ashwini Balaji (2-0-15-0) was impressive in her spell with the ball for her side. Hariharan Shreya was awarded the Player of the Match for her impactful spell with the ball for her side in a rain-curtailed contest.
