The United States of America (USA) Women U19 team produced a dominant all-round performance against Argentina Women U19 in the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup Americas Qualifier, securing a commanding 130-run victory by the DLS method on August 13.
After being asked to bat first, USA built their innings around a composed half-century from captain Chetna Pagydyala and valuable contributions from Sainavi Kambalapalli, Anannya Aneesh, Pooja Ganesh and Mahek Desai. Argentina, chasing a revised target of 156, were unable to cope with USA’s disciplined bowling attack and were bowled out for just 25 in 14.1 overs. Pooja finished unbeaten on 36 from 27 balls, hitting two fours, while Mahek remained not out on 29 from 24 deliveries, with one four. Argentina’s bowling attack had moments of control but struggled to contain USA’s batters consistently. Ana Dei Castelli was the most successful bowler for Argentina, returning figures of 1 for 36 from her four overs, while Rocio Roquel Bartellini claimed two wickets but conceded 28 runs from her four overs. Milagros Bestani, Argentina’s captain, attempted to resist the USA attack with 11 from 38 balls, but she received very little support. She was caught by Uma Bandaru off Maahi Madhavan, becoming the fourth Argentina batter to fall as the score moved to 7-3 at 4.1 overs.
