Japan skipper Bianca Shino won the toss and opted to bat first at YSD UKM Oval, Bangi. The decision seemed to backfire as they lost their top order inside the powerplay. Ayane Sakuraba joined opening batter and skipper Bianca Shino at the crease, and the duo led the recovery with a much-needed 66-run stand for the 4th wicket, which also took them to the 100-run mark. The partnership set a solid platform for Japan to post a competitive total.

Japan eventually managed 113/7 in their quota of 20 overs. Skipper Binaca Shino top-scored with the bat, registering an enterprising half-century (58 off 59 balls). Ayane Sakuraba (20 off 36 balls) and Mamta Kaswan (13 off 11 balls) were the only other batters to enter the double digits with the bat for Japan. The innings had as many as 16 extras.

Myat Hsu Mon (4-31-2), skipper Aye Myat Noe (4-9-1), Htet Htet Swe (4-16-1), and Wathon Nadi (4-23-1) were the top performers with the ball for Myanmar.

Chasing a target of 114, Myanmar were reduced to 9/2 in the 2nd over of the innings by the Japanese new-ball bowlers. Khin Hnin Htwe joined opening batter Naw Bway Law Saw at the crease, and the duo led some sort of a recovery with a much-needed 33-run partnership for the 3rd wicket. Ayane Sakuraba broke the stand by sending Naw Bway Law Saw back to the pavilion in the 8th over of the run chase to provide the 3rd breakthrough for Japan.

Myanmar suffered a mini collapse as they were reduced to 63/6 in the 13th over, losing three wickets for just 21 runs. Yoon Pan Thazin Aung joined Wathon Nadi at the crease, and the pair showed remarkable character to make the opposition grind with a spirited 44-run stand for the 7th wicket, which also took them past the 100-run mark. Mamta Kaswan broke the stand, by sending Wathon Nadi (20 off 26 balls) back to the pavilion in the final over of the run chase, providing the 7th breakthrough for her side.

With 7 runs required off the last couple of deliveries, Myanmar ended up with 109/7, falling 4 runs short of the target. Khin Hnin Htwe (18 off 24 balls) and Yoon Pan Thazin Aung (17* off 19 balls) were the only other batters to enter the double digits for Myanmar. The Japanese bowlers were wayward in their lines, which reflected in the extras column, with as many as 35 runs alone in extras.

The Japanese skipper Bianca Shino was awarded the Player of the Match for her impressive half-century (58 off 59 balls).
