Aliya Riaz Reaches 200 International Caps for Pakistan During T20 World Cup Clash

Aliya Riaz reached a personal landmark on 23 June 2026, her 200th international appearance for Pakistan, in the side’s heavy T20 World Cup defeat to Australia at Headingley, Leeds. The experienced 33-year-old came in at No.6 in Pakistan’s chase of a colossal 200, scored 7 off 11 balls and watched on as her team crumbled to 86 all out.

The result left Pakistan with four straight losses and zero points from four matches, but Aliya’s double-century of caps is a reminder of her longevity and all-format contribution to Pakistan cricket since her international debut in an ODI against Australia at Brisbane on 23 August 2014.

The match itself belonged to Australia. Sophie Molineux’s Australia elected to bat and, despite a sensational first-ball dismissal of Beth Mooney for a platinum duck, were bolstered by a destructive second-wicket stand. Georgia Voll and Ellyse Perry combined for a 100-run partnership, with Perry producing a tournament-defining innings, her maiden ICC Women’s T20 World Cup half-century, a measured 71 from 48 balls, as Australia posted 199/4 from 20 overs.

The total proved far too steep for Pakistan; after a lively powerplay that saw Pakistan 50/3, the innings collapsed, seven wickets for 36 runs, culminating in an 86 all-out finish in the 14th over and a 113-run defeat, one of the biggest margins in Women’s T20 World Cup history.

Aliya Riaz’s role was modest, but throughout her career, she has been a dependable middle-order option capable of stabilising or accelerating as the situation demands. Across formats, she has been a mainstay. Since her ODI debut in 2014, she has amassed 1,681 runs in 76 innings (86 matches) at an average of 25.46 and a strike rate of 66.57, including 10 fifties.

As a part-timer with the ball in ODIs, she has taken 12 wickets in 39 innings, with an economy of 5.44. In T20 internationals, where she has also played extensively since her debut on 30 August 2014, Aliya has 1,396 runs in 98 innings (114 matches) at an average of 20.23 and a strike rate of 98.72, with two fifties to her name and useful medium-pace returns of 20 wickets in 32 bowling innings.

This tournament marks Aliya’s sixth ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign, a testament to her durability at the highest level. Through the years, she has scored 202 runs in 18 innings (22 matches) at a strike rate of 90.17 and an average of 12.62. In the current edition, she has contributed 35 runs from four innings at a strike rate of 77.77. Her best T20I knock remains the unbeaten 57* against UAE in Sylhet on 9 October 2022, when she combined five fours and three sixes to claim Player of the Match honours and steer Pakistan to a comfortable win.

Milestones such as a 200th cap are not only statistical footnotes; they reflect resilience, adaptability and the role a player fills within changing team structures. For Aliya Riaz, a senior professional who has transitioned between batting roles and chipped in with the ball over more than a decade, but on Tuesday night, it was a bittersweet landmark. Pakistan’s campaign continues to search for their first points, but Aliya’s experience will remain a vital resource as they seek momentum in the remaining matches of this T20 World Cup.
