Erin Thomas’ 67 and Lauren Winfield-Hill’s 65 Lead Yorkshire Women to Win Over Durham

Yorkshire Women produced a composed run chase to defeat Durham Women by six wickets in the ECB Women’s One-Day Cup 2026 clash at Chester-le-Street on June 17, 2026. Chasing a modest target, Yorkshire overcame a few hiccups thanks to a crucial partnership between Erin Thomas and Lauren Winfield-Hill before finishing the job with 15 balls to spare. Earlier in the day, Durham battled hard with the bat after being put under pressure by Yorkshire’s disciplined bowling attack, but regular wickets prevented them from building the kind of momentum required to post a more challenging score.

Durham Women’s innings never truly settled despite a promising start. Openers Mia Rogers and Emma Marlow attempted to establish a platform, but Yorkshire struck early when Rogers was dismissed for 13 from 17 deliveries, leaving the score at 18/1. Marlow then combined with captain Hollie Armitage in a partnership worth 21 runs for the second wicket. Armitage looked determined but could only manage 12 before Sarah Glenn broke the stand at 39/2. Durham’s problems deepened shortly after when Mady Villiers fell for just 1, with Glenn striking again to leave the hosts reeling at 45/3.

Emma Marlow tried to anchor the innings and found support from Emily Windsor as the pair added 12 runs for the fourth wicket. However, Yorkshire continued to chip away, and Windsor’s dismissal for 6 made it 57/4. Heather Graham’s stay was brief as she departed without scoring, reducing Durham to 58/5. At that stage, the innings was in danger of collapsing completely. Bess Heath contributed a quick 5 before becoming Jess Jonassen’s second victim, and Durham slipped further to 64/6.

The recovery came through a valuable seventh-wicket partnership between Emma Marlow and Grace Thompson. Marlow, who top-scored with a patient 39 from 55 balls featuring three boundaries, helped add 40 runs with Thompson to bring some stability. After Marlow was run out at 104/7, Thompson continued to fight. Alongside Abigail Glen, she added 19 runs for the eighth wicket before Glen departed for 8.

Thompson’s determined 40 from 50 balls kept Durham alive and, together with Trudy Johnson, added another 28 runs for the ninth wicket. Thompson eventually fell for 40, while Johnson remained unbeaten on 32 from 53 balls and Katie Levick chipped in with 31 from 54 deliveries. Their unbroken last-wicket stand of 38 runs dragged Durham to 193 all out in 49.4 overs, giving their bowlers something to defend.

Yorkshire’s bowling unit shared the workload effectively throughout the innings. Ines Blackwell was the standout performer, claiming 2 for 42 from her 10 overs while also removing both Mia Rogers and Abigail Glen. Sarah Glenn delivered a miserly spell of 3 for 40 in 10 overs and picked up the key wickets of Hollie Armitage and Mady Villiers.

Jess Jonassen also finished with 2 for 18 from 10 overs, applying immense pressure through the middle overs and dismissing Heather Graham and Bess Heath. Claudie Cooper contributed with the wicket of Emma Marlow, while Maddie Ward removed Katie Levick. Beth Langston bowled economically without a wicket, conceding just 21 runs from five overs.

Needing 194 for victory, Yorkshire suffered an early setback when Ami Campbell fell for 13 with the score at 19. However, the experienced Lauren Winfield-Hill and Erin Thomas rebuilt patiently. The pair put together the defining partnership of the match, adding 122 runs for the second wicket and taking the game away from Durham. Winfield-Hill played the senior role brilliantly, compiling 65 from 107 balls with six boundaries. Thomas complemented her perfectly, scoring a fluent 67 from 112 deliveries, also striking six fours. Their stand carried Yorkshire from a position of slight uncertainty to complete control.

Durham fought back late in the chase. Lauren Winfield-Hill became the second wicket to fall at 141, giving Grace Thompson a breakthrough. Erin Thomas continued to guide the innings before Mady Villiers removed her for 67, leaving Yorkshire at 171/3. Jess Jonassen then joined the middle order and added useful runs before falling for 16 at 183/4. Any hopes of a dramatic Durham comeback were quickly extinguished as Alice Clarke remained unbeaten on 9 and Maddie Ward finished not out on 3, guiding Yorkshire to 194/4 in 47.3 overs.

Durham’s bowlers worked hard despite the defeat. Trudy Johnson was the most successful, returning figures of 1 for 36 from six overs and dismissing Ami Campbell. Mady Villiers bowled a full allocation of 10 overs and claimed 1 for 47, including the important wicket of Erin Thomas. Grace Thompson produced a tidy spell of 1 for 35 from 9.3 overs and removed Winfield-Hill. Katie Levick bowled accurately for her 1 for 21 from 10 overs, accounting for Jess Jonassen, while Abigail Glen and Emma Marlow were economical but went wicketless.
