The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 continues with a big Group 1 match as Australia Women take on South Africa Women at Old Trafford, Manchester, on June 13. Both teams are among the strongest sides in women’s cricket and will be looking to start their World Cup campaign with a win.

Australia come into the tournament as one of the favourites and will be led by Sophie Molineux. The squad has plenty of experienced players and match-winners, including Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner, Tahlia McGrath, Annabel Sutherland and Alana King. Australia have been one of the most successful teams in ICC tournaments and will be aiming to win another world title.
Several Australian players are also in excellent form. Georgia Voll has scored 448 runs in her last 10 T20Is at an average of 44.80 and a strike rate of 156.09. Beth Mooney has also been in great touch, scoring 424 runs in her last 10 matches at an average of 53.00. With the ball, Annabel Sutherland has taken 13 wickets in her last six T20Is, while Alana King has picked up nine wickets during the same period.
South Africa Women, captained by Laura Wolvaardt, will be hoping to make a strong start after becoming one of the most improved teams in world cricket in recent years. Their squad includes experienced players such as Marizanne Kapp, Chloe Tryon, Ayabonga Khaka, Dane van Niekerk and Shabnim Ismail.
Laura Wolvaardt comes into the tournament in excellent form, having scored 427 runs in her last 10 T20Is at an average of 53.38 and a strike rate of 141.39. Sune Luus has also scored important runs recently, while Nonkululeko Mlaba and Ayabonga Khaka have been among South Africa’s leading wicket-takers.
Head-to-Head:
Australia Women have had the better record against South Africa Women in T20Is. The two teams have met 11 times, with Australia winning nine matches and South Africa winning two.
However, South Africa will take confidence from their most recent meeting at the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup in Dubai, where they beat Australia by eight wickets. Earlier in 2024, Australia won a three-match T20I series 2-1 at home, showing how competitive the rivalry has become.
