Cricket Australia (CA) has confirmed changes to Australia Women’s home international schedule for the 2026 season after the International Cricket Council (ICC) moved its inaugural Women’s Champions T20 Trophy from June 2027 to February.
The change created a clash with Australia’s planned white-ball series against New Zealand. As a result, the White Ferns will now make two separate trips to Australia instead of one longer tour.
New Zealand Women will first travel to Australia in October for a three-match T20I series before returning in March for a three-match ODI series. With the revised schedule, Australia Women will now play nine home internationals next summer, instead of the 12 matches originally planned.
One of the standout features of the updated schedule is the opportunity for women’s cricket to take centre stage during the Australian summer. The second and third ODIs against New Zealand will be played at Junction Oval in Melbourne.
The second ODI, scheduled for March 8, will be a day-night match held on International Women’s Day and Victoria’s Labour Day public holiday. It will also be the first full international match played under lights at Junction Oval since the venue installed new floodlights. The third and final ODI of the series will be played at the same venue on March 10.
The changes have also affected Bangladesh Women’s tour of Australia. The original schedule included both a three-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in October. Under the revised plan, the ODI series against Bangladesh will still go ahead, while the T20I series has been replaced by New Zealand’s October visit.
Australia are required to play ODI series against both Bangladesh and New Zealand as part of the ICC Women’s Championship, which acts as the qualification pathway for the Women’s ODI World Cup.
Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager of Scheduling and Operations, Peter Roach, said the updated schedule delivers the best outcome for teams and supporters.
“We’re particularly excited that women’s cricket will feature prominently with the historic first international match under lights at Junction Oval.”
“We are thankful to Bangladesh and NZ for their cooperation and understanding – particularly NZ for agreeing to travel to Australia twice.”
Tickets for Australia Women’s international summer will go on sale from July 23.
