The 2026 Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament returns to Kigali from 10–20 June with five nations converging for a compact, high-stakes celebration of cricket and remembrance. This year’s edition, featuring Brazil, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, and a Zimbabwe Women High Performance XI, will be contested as a double round-robin, guaranteeing intense, repeat matchups across ten days of T20 action at the Gahanga International Cricket Stadium.

More than a competitive fixture, the Kwibuka Cup remains a symbolic tournament that marries sporting development with commemoration: a platform where emerging talents from across Africa and beyond showcase progress while honouring the victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
History:
The Kwibuka tournament began in June 2014 as the Kwibuka Cricket for Peace, a five-match bilateral series at the Kicukiro Oval (now Gahanga International Cricket Stadium) between Rwanda and Uganda; Uganda won that inaugural contest 4–1. Initially an East African initiative, the event has steadily broadened its reach to welcome teams from across Africa and the globe.
From 2019 onward, matches at the Kwibuka Cup carried official Twenty20 International (T20I) status following the ICC’s decision to grant full T20I recognition to all women’s matches between members from 1 July 2018. Over its history, the tournament has produced multiple champions, Kenya (four titles), Uganda and Tanzania (three titles each), and Rwanda (one title), and has become a key annual fixture for talent discovery, regional rivalry, and the sport’s growth in Rwanda.
Format:
The 2026 edition will follow a double round-robin format. Each of the five teams will play every other side twice, providing a balanced schedule that rewards consistency and depth over short bursts of form.
With 20 round-robin fixtures scheduled, the format ensures repeated tactical matchups and clearer measures of team progress across all the departments.
