Kathryn Bryce Hits Unbeaten 63 as Scotland Women Beat Netherlands via DLS

Scotland registered a convincing 24-run victory via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method over the Netherlands in a rain-disrupted fifth match of the Scotland Women’s T20I Tri-Series at The Grange Club in Edinburgh. After being put into bat, the hosts put on an aggressive batting display to pile up a commanding 124 for 3 in their allocated 12 overs. In reply, the Dutch chase never really got going under the adjusted targets, as they were restricted to a modest 80 for 6 by the end of their shortened 10-over innings, allowing Scotland to solidify their standing in the tournament.

The Netherlands won the toss and elected to field, hoping to exploit any early dampness in the surface. However, the decision backfired as Scotland’s top order came out with a highly intent-driven approach. Opener Darcey Carter fell early for just 2 runs, but that only brought skipper Kathryn Bryce to the crease, who alongside Katherine Fraser, completely turned the momentum. Fraser played a crucial anchoring role, scoring a brisk 29 off 17 balls, clearing the ropes once and hitting three boundaries before her departure.

The centerpiece of the Scottish innings was a spectacular captain’s knock by Kathryn Bryce. She dismantled the Dutch bowling attack with a masterclass in aggressive T20 batting, smashing an unbeaten 63 off just 33 deliveries. Her blistering innings was studded with nine elegant boundaries and a towering six, operating at a strike rate of over 190. Sarah Bryce provided the perfect late-overs flourish, chipping in with a rapid 12-ball 23 that included four boundaries, ensuring the team finished on a high at 124 for 3 after 12 overs.

On the bowling front, it was a tough outing for the visitors as the Scottish batters found gaps at will. Iris Zwilling was the pick of the Dutch bowlers, showing great control to pick up 1 for 25 in her 3 overs. Caroline de Lange also managed a breakthrough, finishing with figures of 1 for 11 in her solitary over, while skipper Heather Siegers picked up a wicket but gave away 28 runs in her 3 overs. Silver Siegers and Isabel van der Woning found themselves under immense pressure, leaking 27 and 25 runs respectively from their two-over spells.

Faced with a steep, rain-adjusted target, the Netherlands required an explosive start but instead found themselves stifled by disciplined Scottish bowling. Openers Babette de Leede and Phebe Molkenboer failed to establish a solid platform, with Molkenboer departing for 3. De Leede showed a brief glimmer of resistance, striking two massive sixes in her 7-ball 14, but her aggressive cameo was cut short before she could do any damage. Heather Siegers tried to steady the ship with 15 off 7 balls, but the regular fall of wickets halted any real acceleration, reduced to 20/2.

Sterre Kalis fought a lonely battle in the middle order, top-scoring for the Dutch side with a steady 28 off 22 balls, hitting three boundaries. However, she lacked substantial support from the other end, as Robine Rijke (9) and Sanya Khurana (2) couldn’t break the shackles. Chloe Abel was the star with the ball for Scotland, delivering a clinical spell to pick up 2 wickets for just 8 runs in her 2 overs. Priyanaz Chatterji (1/7) and Olivia Bell (1/14) picked up a wicket apiece to ensure the Netherlands were kept down to 80 for 6, sealing a comfortable win for the hosts.
