After being asked to bat, Hampshire Women had a shaky start as Ella McCaughan fell for 16 in the fourth over with the score reading 25. Before her dismissal, she and skipper Georgia Adams added a steady 25-run opening stand that gave Hampshire a decent start in the powerplay. Georgia Adams, however, could not convert her start and departed soon after for 10, leaving Hampshire Women at 27/2 inside five overs.

The innings then stabilised through Naomi Dattani and Francesca Sweet, who stitched together a valuable 28-run partnership for the third wicket. Dattani looked fluent throughout her innings, timing the ball beautifully during her 31-run knock from 24 deliveries that included five boundaries. Sweet complemented her well with a brisk 20 off 17 balls, striking four boundaries before Kate Coppack removed her at 55/3 in the ninth over.

Essex Women sensed an opening when Abi Norgrove was dismissed for 14 after adding 34 runs alongside Dattani. Jodi Grewcock produced the breakthrough, reducing Hampshire to 89/4 in the 13th over. But once again, Hampshire found momentum through an important partnership between Naomi Dattani and Rhianna Southby. The pair added another 44 runs that kept the scoreboard moving during the middle overs. Southby contributed a handy 16 from 12 balls before becoming Kate Coppack’s third wicket.

The momentum shifted significantly during the death overs as Nancy Harman played a crucial cameo. Harman smashed 27 off just 17 deliveries, including a six, and formed a quick 26-run stand with Amanda-Jade Wellington that pushed Hampshire beyond the 130-run mark. Although Harman departed in the penultimate over, Wellington ensured Hampshire finished strongly with an unbeaten 16 from only nine balls. Poppy Tulloch added late finishing touches with a rapid unbeaten five off two deliveries as Hampshire Women closed their innings at 160/7 in 20 overs.

Kate Coppack emerged as the standout bowler for Essex Women with an impressive four-wicket haul. She conceded only 18 runs in her four overs while dismissing Francesca Sweet, Rhianna Southby, Nancy Harman, and Georgia Adams. Grace Scrivens also bowled effectively, picking up the important wicket of Naomi Dattani, while Sophia Smale and Jodi Grewcock chipped in with one wicket each. Sophie Munro endured a difficult outing, conceding 40 runs from her four overs.

Chasing 161, Essex Women struggled to build momentum early as Hampshire’s bowlers struck regularly. Alice Macleod was dismissed for six after a cautious start, giving Naomi Dattani her first wicket. Grace Scrivens also fell cheaply for eight, and Essex Women quickly slipped to 17/2 inside four overs. The pressure intensified when Cordelia Griffith and Jodi Grewcock attempted to rebuild the innings.

The turning point of the chase came through an excellent 71-run partnership between Cordelia Griffith and Jodi Grewcock. Griffith played an aggressive innings of 40 from 29 balls, hammering five boundaries and a six at a strike rate of 137.93. Grewcock anchored the innings brilliantly from the other end, rotating strike consistently and punishing loose deliveries. Their stand revived Essex Women after the early collapse and brought the required run rate under control.

However, Amanda-Jade Wellington broke the dangerous partnership by dismissing Griffith at 88/3 in the 13th over. That wicket triggered another collapse for Essex Women. Joanne Gardner managed only seven before Georgia Adams struck, while Florence Miller was removed for four by Wellington. Sophia Smale’s quick five ended when Georgia Adams trapped her lbw, leaving Essex at 123/6 with the chase slipping away.

Despite wickets falling around her, Jodi Grewcock continued to fight with a superb unbeaten 57 from 43 deliveries. She held one end firmly and kept Essex Women alive deep into the innings. However, the lower order failed to provide enough support. Amara Carr was dismissed for five, Sophie Munro departed for a duck to Daisy Gibb, and Kate Coppack was run out in the final over as Essex Women finished on 137/9.

Hampshire Women’s bowling attack delivered collectively under pressure. Amanda-Jade Wellington and Georgia Adams both claimed two wickets each and controlled the middle overs effectively. Naomi Dattani continued her excellent all-round outing with figures of 2/24 in three overs, while Daisy Gibb and Bex Tyson contributed with one wicket apiece. Their disciplined execution during the crucial middle and death overs ensured Hampshire Women sealed a convincing 23-run victory in the Women’s T20 Blast 2026.
