Shafali Verma’s rise has been built on fearless batting and a natural ability to take bowlers on from the very first ball. Growing up in Rohtak, Haryana, she quickly established herself as one of India’s brightest young talents, earning recognition for her aggressive strokeplay long before reaching the senior level.

Her breakthrough came during the Women’s T20 Challenge in 2019, where her power-hitting against established international players immediately caught attention. Those performances fast-tracked her progress into the national setup and confirmed her status as one of India’s most exciting batting prospects.

Shafali also became a key figure in India’s youth pathway. In 2023, she captained India to victory in the inaugural ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup, leading from the front in a landmark achievement for Indian women’s cricket. Franchise cricket further accelerated her growth, with Delhi Capitals signing her for the Women’s Premier League, where her attacking game translated seamlessly to the biggest stage.

Shafali Verma’s International Career

Shafali made her T20I debut for India in September 2019 against South Africa at just 15 years old, becoming the youngest Indian woman to play T20 International cricket. Her impact was immediate. Later that year in the West Indies, she smashed 73 in a T20I to become the youngest Indian woman to score an international fifty. She quickly cemented her place in India’s white-ball setup and played a major role during India’s run to the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup final. Her fearless approach at the top of the order made her one of the most dangerous powerplay batters in women’s cricket and briefly saw her rise to No.1 in the ICC T20I batting rankings.

Though she later showcased her range across formats including a double century in Test cricket — T20 cricket remains her strongest platform. After a difficult period that saw her move out of the senior side, Shafali produced a memorable comeback during India’s 2025 World Cup triumph, delivering a match-winning performance in the final with 87 runs and 2 wickets.

In T20 Internationals, Shafali has scored 2,687 runs in 103 matches at an average of 27.98 and a strike rate of 135.29, hitting 16 fifties, 344 fours, and 77 sixes. She has also contributed with the ball, claiming 11 T20I wickets, reinforcing her value as a dynamic all-round option.

For Delhi Capitals, Verma’s explosive batting has been instrumental for their consistent success as well. In 37 matches, she has 1,124 runs at an average of 33.05. With a strike rate 0f 152.09, she boasts one of the highest strike rates in the tournament. By hitting 53 sixes across her WPL career, she also sits at the top with the highest number of sixes in the tournament. For India, in the upcoming T20 World Cup, Verma’s form will be crucial as she is known to give powerful starts and take wickets when needed.
