Lancashire Women were asked to bat first and immediately signaled their attacking intent through Eve Jones and Darcy Carter. The opening pair mixed aggression with composure, ensuring Surrey’s bowlers never settled during the powerplay. Eve Jones looked particularly fluent, piercing the gaps with authority and finding boundaries regularly. Alongside her, Darcy Carter rotated strike smartly before opening up against the pace bowlers. The pair added a brisk 97-run opening partnership, which laid the perfect platform for a massive total. Jones dominated the stand with a superb 56 off just 31 deliveries, smashing eight fours and a six at a strike rate of 180 before Priyanaz Chatterji finally broke through in the 11th over. Carter continued after Jones’ departure and contributed a valuable 35 from 36 balls before being run out, a dismissal that briefly slowed Lancashire’s momentum.

Meg Lanning then ensured the innings retained its aggressive tempo. The experienced Australian batter brought elegance and power together in a sparkling 40 from only 22 deliveries, striking five boundaries and a six. Her partnership with Carter kept the scoreboard ticking rapidly, and Lancashire looked set for a total well beyond 190. However, Surrey’s bowlers and fielders fought back impressively in the latter half of the innings. Alice Monaghan produced an important spell, dismissing both Meg Lanning and Eleanor Threlkeld to finish with 2/32 from four overs. Kalea Moore chipped in with the wicket of Kate Cross, while Priyanaz Chatterji claimed the crucial scalp of Eve Jones. Lancashire’s innings also suffered due to three runouts, including the dismissals of Carter, Seren Smale, and Ailsa Lister, highlighting Surrey’s sharp fielding effort under pressure.

Although wickets fell regularly during the death overs, Lancashire still managed to post a challenging 185/7 in their 20 overs at a run rate of 9.25. Ailsa Lister added a quick 15 from eight balls, while Fi Morris remained unbeaten on 7 from four deliveries to provide the finishing touches. Surrey’s bowling card reflected the tough conditions for bowlers on a batting-friendly surface. Danielle Gregory conceded 49 runs in her four overs despite generating pace and bounce, while Ryana MacDonald-Gay delivered the most economical spell among the frontline bowlers with figures of 0/23 from four overs. The fielding unit, however, compensated brilliantly with direct-hit pressure and athletic work in the ring.

Chasing 186, Surrey Women knew they needed a flying start, and captain Bryony Smith delivered exactly that. From the outset, Smith attacked anything loose and took control of the innings with fearless intent. Together with wicketkeeper Kira Chathli, she powered Surrey to 37 inside the first four overs. Chathli played an entertaining cameo of 19 from 11 balls before becoming Grace Potts’ first victim, but Smith barely slowed down. Alice Davidson-Richards then joined the captain and the duo built the defining partnership of the match. Smith unleashed a breathtaking innings of 71 from just 35 balls, hammering ten fours and three sixes at a strike rate above 200. Her calculated aggression dismantled Lancashire’s bowling attack and shifted the pressure entirely onto the fielding side.

The second-wicket partnership between Smith and Davidson-Richards was worth 71 runs and effectively placed Surrey ahead of the asking rate. Even after Smith fell to Kate Cross at 108/2 in the 10th over, Surrey maintained control thanks to Davidson-Richards’ calm presence. Laura Harris added a quickfire 11 from six deliveries, including a boundary and a six, before Cross struck again to keep Lancashire faintly alive in the contest. Jemima Spence then contributed a handy 31 off 22 balls with five boundaries, sharing another important stand with Davidson-Richards that brought Surrey within touching distance of victory.

Davidson-Richards anchored the chase superbly with an unbeaten 47 from 31 deliveries, balancing aggression with maturity during the middle and death overs. Paige Scholfield stayed unbeaten on 8 as Surrey eventually reached 191/4 in 18.5 overs, sealing a thrilling six-wicket win with seven balls to spare. Lancashire’s bowlers struggled to contain Surrey’s relentless batting lineup. Grace Potts finished with 2/31 and Kate Cross matched that with 2/39, but the remaining bowlers leaked runs consistently on a flat Oval surface. Darcy Carter, Hannah Jones, and Tara Norris all went wicketless despite sustained effort throughout the chase.
