Born in Victoria, Alana King progressed through the state pathway system, representing Victoria at Under-15 and Under-18 level before joining the Victorian Spirit squad during the 2016-17 season. Her ability to generate sharp turn and variation quickly marked her as a spinner with significant potential, while early opportunities with Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League further accelerated her growth.

Seeking greater opportunities, King made the significant decision to move to Western Australia, a move that proved transformative for her career. The change helped refine her game and unlocked another level of consistency, culminating in a standout WBBL 06 season that earned her selection in the Team of the Tournament. Her breakthrough continued during the 2021-22 season when she played a major role in Perth Scorchers’ maiden WBBL title triumph before receiving her long-awaited Australia call-up.

Alana King International Career

King’s international breakthrough arrived during the 2021-22 Ashes summer when she debuted in all three formats within just three weeks. The leg-spinner immediately showcased her ability at the highest level, nearly helping Australia secure victory during the Canberra Test before becoming Australia’s second-highest wicket-taker at the 2022 Women’s ODI World Cup in New Zealand. While competition for places occasionally left her in and out of Australia’s playing XI in subsequent years, King consistently demonstrated her ability to influence major contests.

Her defining international moment arrived during the 2025 Ashes when she delivered one of the finest performances of her career against England. King finished the multi-format series with a remarkable 23 wickets at 11.17, including a memorable day-night Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground where she claimed nine wickets across the match. Across WT20Is, King has taken 32 wickets in 30 matches at an average of 17.59, highlighting her importance as one of Australia’s premier spin weapons.
