Born in Sydney, Nicola Carey made her senior debut for New South Wales during the 2010-11 season shortly before turning 18, immediately showing maturity beyond her years with a match-winning unbeaten 36. A left-handed batter and right-arm seamer, she steadily developed into a reliable all-round cricketer through Australia’s domestic pathway, earning recognition for her ability to contribute in multiple facets of the game. Although she was called into Australia squads during the 2012 and 2016 ICC Women’s T20 World Cups as an injury replacement, an international debut remained out of reach.

Her domestic career continued to flourish, and a major turning point came in 2019 when she left New South Wales and Sydney Thunder to begin a new chapter with Tasmania and Hobart Hurricanes. The move revitalized her game, helping her become a crucial figure in Tasmania’s domestic success and Hobart Hurricanes’ maiden WBBL title-winning campaign. Most recently, she represented Mumbai Indians in the WPL and enjoyed a strong campaign, adding further depth to an already accomplished domestic and franchise career.

Nicola Carey International Career

Carey’s long-awaited international breakthrough finally arrived during Australia’s 2018 tour of India, where she made her debut and quickly established herself within Australia’s white-ball setup. She later featured at the 2018 T20 World Cup and became part of one of Australia’s most successful eras, contributing to their title-winning campaigns at the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and the 2022 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. Her versatility made her an important squad player, capable of delivering key overs while also providing valuable lower order runs.
