Lara Maritz Hits 90 to Power Typhoons Past Dragons by 5 Runs in Rain-Affected Contest

The Cricket Ireland Women’s Super T20 Series 2026 saw an exciting game on May 17 at the Civil Service Cricket Club, Stormont, Belfast. The Typhoons Women showed focus and calm to beat the Dragons Women by 5 runs using the DLS method after rain stopped play. The match had big hits, tense moments, and a key run out, but in the end, it was the Typhoons’ steady batting and tight bowling that won the day.

Lara Maritz’s 63-ball 90 lifts Typhoons to 173/4

After winning the toss, the Typhoons opted to bat first and got off to a fast start. Captain Louise Little made 32 runs from 17 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes, before being caught by Dalzell off Kelly. Lara Maritz, who scored a superb 90 from 63 balls with 12 fours and a six, emerged as the leading run-scorer. Her 105-run partnership with Alice Tector, who added 39 from 35 balls, helped Typhoons reach over 150 quickly.

Christina Coulter Reilly added 6 runs without getting out, taking the team to a total of 173/4 in 20 overs. The only run out of the game was Georgina Dempsey, brilliantly run out by Murray. For the Dragons, Arlene Kelly took 2 wickets for 31 runs, while Alana Dalzell picked up 1 wicket for 37 runs.

The Dragons had a revised target of 148 from 16 overs under the DLS method. Sophie Reid played a strong innings, scoring 44 runs from 28 balls with four boundaries and two sixes. Abbi Harrison made 15, and together they had a 40-run opening partnership that gave Dragons hope. Alana Dalzell also contributed 15 runs.

Skipper Arlene Kelly tried to lift the chase with a quick 35 not out from 15 balls, including five fours and a six. But wickets kept falling at the other end, and the required run rate kept rising. The Dragons finished on 142/4, just 5 runs short. Kia McCartney (1/16 off 3), Ellie McGee (1/16 off 2), Louise Little (1/8 off 1) and Georgia Dempsey (1/43 off 4) bagged a wicket each.

The Cricket Ireland Women’s Super T20 Series 2026 is running throughout May with matches in Wicklow and Belfast. The Typhoons now have 10 points from 4 matches (2 wins, 1 loss, 1 no-result), keeping them in the race for the series lead. The Dragons have 7 points from 4 games.
