The Chamari Athapaththu-led visitors were up against the hosts Bangladesh, led by skipper Nigar Sultana Joty, in the 2nd T20I of the three-match series at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet on 30th April 2026 (Thursday).

Sri Lanka went 1-0 up by winning the 1st T20I by 25 runs at the same venue on 28th April 2026 (Tuesday). The home side made a couple of changes: Ritu Moni replaced Rabeya Khan, and Fahima Khatun replaced Marufa Akter in the starting 11. The visitors retained the same side that took the field in the previous game of the series.
Harshitha Samarawickrama, Nilakshika Silva Fireworks Take Bangladesh past 150
Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana Joty won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Sri Lankan openers, Hasini Perera and skipper Chamari Athapaththu, got their side off to a cautious start with a 22-run opening stand. Fariha Trisna broke the stand by sending Hasini Perera (9 off 11 balls) back to the pavilion in the 5th over of the innings, providing the first breakthrough for Bangladesh.
Imesha Dulani, alongside skipper Chamari Athapaththu, steadied the innings with a crucial 44-run stand for the 2nd wicket. Ritu Moni ended Imesha Dulani’s (27 off 25 balls) stay at the crease in the 11th innings, providing the 2nd breakthrough for her side. However, the impetus in the innings came during the 4th wicket partnership worth 61 runs, featuring Harshitha Samarawickrama and Nilakshika Silva (22* off 18 balls). Samarawickrama (49 off 29 balls) fell just one run short of a well-deserved half-century, as she was dismissed on the final ball of the innings as Sri Lanka posted 154/4 in their quota of 20 overs.
Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu (42 off 37 balls) chipped in with a handy contribution with the bat. As far as the bowling department is concerned, Sultana Khatun (4-0-21-1), Fariha Trisna (4-0-23-1), Nahida Akter (4-0-34-1), and Ritu Moni (4-0-40-1) picked up a wicket each for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh succumbed to spin
Chasing a target of 155, the Bangladeshi openers Juairiya Ferdous (29 off 23 balls) and wicket-keeper batter Dilara Akter got their side off to a cautious start, going wicketless in the powerplay, managing 46 runs on the board, scoring at a rate of around 8 runs an over. Kavisha Dilhari provided the much-needed breakthrough for Sri Lanka by sending Dilara Akter (23 off 23 balls) back to the pavilion in the 7th over of the run chase.
The rest of the batting unit were unable to keep up with the required run rate for the rest of their innings. As a result, despite a spirited effort from Sharmin Akhter (44* off 47 balls) and Ritu Moni (9* off 5 balls) en route to their unbeaten 22-run stand for the 6th wicket, the Nigar Sultana Joty-led side (133/5) fell 21 runs short of the target. Shorna Akter (12 off 13 balls) was the only other batter to enter the double digits with the bat for Bangladesh.
Kavisha Dilhari (4-0-15-2) was the only wicket-taker with the ball for Sri Lanka, while Sugandika Kumari (4-0-14-0) and skipper Chamari Athapaththu (4-0-21-0) chipped in with impressive spells with the ball for their side. Kavisha Dilhari was awarded the Player of the Match as she played a crucial role (4-0-15-2) with the ball in restricting the hosts, as Sri Lanka clinched the T20I series going 2-0 up, with a game in hand.
