Warwickshire Women Post Record 354/7 Against Hampshire, but Rain Forces No Result

Warwickshire Women delivered a commanding and high-quality batting performance against Hampshire Women in the 6th match of the ECB Women’s One-Day Cup 2026 in Birmingham, but persistent heavy rain ultimately had the final say, forcing the match to be abandoned and leaving both sides to share points in a frustrating finish.

The innings began with positive intent from Warwickshire, as the opening pair looked to establish early control. Amu Surenkumar played a steady and composed knock of 51 off 63 balls, rotating the strike well while punishing loose deliveries with seven boundaries. Alongside her, Davina Perrin provided the early impetus with a fluent 81 off 76 balls, striking eight fours and three sixes. The pair built a strong opening stand, taking Warwickshire past the 100-run mark with confidence before Surenkumar fell at 147 in 22.4 overs. Perrin followed shortly after at 151 in 23.6 overs, but the solid foundation had already been laid.

Meg Austin ensured that the momentum did not dip, producing an aggressive 51 off just 43 balls, including two fours and two sixes. She counterattacked effectively during the middle overs, stitching together a vital partnership that kept the run rate above six. However, her dismissal at 248 in 37.3 overs gave Hampshire a brief opening to regain control.

Katie George then stepped in and played a crucial stabilizing role with a well-constructed 56 off 51 balls. She kept the scoreboard ticking while also finding boundaries at regular intervals. George formed an important partnership with Charis Pavely, who later emerged as the standout finisher. The duo added valuable runs before George was dismissed at 270 in 40.5 overs.

From there, Pavely took charge of the innings with an explosive unbeaten 63 off just 38 balls, striking eight boundaries and a six at an impressive strike rate. Her late assault ensured Warwickshire maximized the final overs, even as wickets fell at the other end—Chloe Brewer (8) departed at 287, Natasha Wraith (9) at 326, and Mary Taylor (2) at 329. Alexa Stonehouse’s quickfire 13* off 7 balls provided further late impetus as Warwickshire surged to a formidable 354/7 in their 50 overs, with 20 extras adding to the total.

Hampshire’s bowlers had to endure a tough outing against a relentless batting lineup. Bex Tyson was the most successful, picking up 3 wickets for 66 runs in her 10 overs, including key middle-order breakthroughs. Daisy Gibb bowled with discipline, conceding just 50 runs in her 10 overs while taking a wicket. Amanda-Jade Wellington (1/56), Naomi Dattani (1/63), and Megan Sturge (1/45) all contributed with a wicket each, but struggled to stem the flow of runs, particularly in the death overs where Pavely dominated. Francesca Sweet and Georgia Adams were unable to make significant breakthroughs, as Warwickshire’s batters capitalised on every scoring opportunity.

Unfortunately, just as Hampshire Women were preparing to begin what would have been a challenging chase of 355, heavy rain intervened and prevented any further play. Despite a promising setup for an exciting second innings, the weather ensured there was no result, denying fans a potentially thrilling run chase.

In the end, while Warwickshire Women will take confidence from their dominant batting display, both teams were left disappointed as the weather played spoilsport, cutting short what had the makings of a highly competitive contest.
