Samanthi Dunukedeniya’s 3-Fer Leads Cyprus Women to 34-Run Win Over Greece in 3rd T20I

In an engaging contest from the Greece Women’s tour of Cyprus, it was Cyprus Women who held their nerve to register a convincing 34-run victory over Greece Women in the 3rd T20I. The match unfolded with steady momentum shifts, but it was Cyprus’s ability to recover from early setbacks and deliver with the ball that ultimately shaped the outcome.

Cyprus Women’s innings never quite found immediate fluency, as they were rocked early by disciplined Greek bowling. The opening blow came with Alexandra Taylor departing without scoring, trapped lbw by Maria Syrioti, making it 1/3 inside the first over. Pressure mounted quickly when Dilini Ishara was run out without troubling the scorers, leaving the side at 2/7. The early breakthroughs gave Greece a firm grip, and when the in-form Ayesha Dirannehelage was run out for a fighting 27 off 41 balls, Cyprus slipped to 5/61.

However, the middle phase saw a crucial rebuilding effort. Iresha Chathurani contributed a handy 8 before falling, but it was the partnership between Dineika Koralalage (20 off 38) and Nilmini Liyanage (8* off 11) that steadied the innings. Their composed stand helped Cyprus navigate the closing overs. Despite losing Chandrika Wijesinghe (4) during this phase, Cyprus managed to push through to 108/6 in their 20 overs, with a significant contribution from extras (41), which proved to be a decisive factor in the match.

Greece’s women’s bowlers shared the workload effectively. Maria-afroditi Vervitsioti was the standout, picking up 2 wickets for 22 runs in her 4 overs, while Maria Syrioti kept things tight with 1/16. Aggeliki Savvani and Elpida Kallous also chipped in with disciplined spells, ensuring Cyprus never broke free with a big partnership.

Chasing 109, Greece Women struggled to build momentum right from the start. Maria Syrioti was dismissed early for 1, bowled by Dineika Koralalage, and Aggeliki Savvani’s 14 off 21 balls showed some resistance before she was run out, leaving the score at 2/32. The innings never quite recovered from these early jolts. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, with Aggeliki-ioanna Argyropoulou, Adamantia Makri, and Maria Polimeri all failing to convert their starts.

A brief middle-order stand between Maria-afroditi Vervitsioti (6) and Theodora Parisi-mesimeri (5) offered slight hope, but the required rate kept climbing. The collapse deepened as wickets tumbled from 5/46 to 9/73, effectively ending Greece’s chances. Sofia-nefeli Georgota remained unbeaten on 0, but the innings folded at 74 in 19.1 overs.

Cyprus’s women’s bowling attack was clinical and well-coordinated. Samanthi Dunukedeniya led the charge with an impressive 3/22 in 4 overs, while Chandrika Wijesinghe supported brilliantly with 2/17. Dineika Koralalage set the tone early with 2 wickets in just 3.1 overs, and Iresha Chathurani and Ayesha Dirannehelage chipped in with a wicket each, ensuring there was no escape for the Greek batters.
