Australia’s Jamie Siddons Appointed Head Coach of Sri Lanka Women’s Team in World Cup Year

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the appointment of former Australian cricketer Jamie Siddons as the new head coach of the Sri Lanka women’s national team. The experienced coach will officially begin his one-year tenure on March 16, 2026, as the team gears up for an important period in international women’s cricket.

The new head coach of the Sri Lanka women’s national team has a lot of coaching experience to his name as he has worked with many international and domestic teams throughout his career. The most notable part of his coaching career has been his stint as the head coach of the Bangladesh men’s national team from 2007 to 2011.

It was a significant part of his career as Bangladesh as a team achieved significant progress throughout his tenure as the head coach of the team, recording many memorable wins against higher-ranked teams in the world. Apart from his international coaching career, Siddons has also earned a lot of praise in his domestic coaching career.

He was also the head coach of South Australia’s domestic cricket team, known as the Redbacks, from 2015 to 2020. His tenure was characterized by a focus on player development and building a stronger side within Australian domestic cricket. Prior to joining the Redbacks, Siddons was in New Zealand working as the head coach of the Wellington Firebirds from 2011 to 2015. He accumulated experience working in different cricketing environments in managing professional teams.

Siddons is a qualified coach in level 3 and is recognized for his excellent technical understanding of cricket and his ability to nurture players at both local and international levels. His experience as a professional cricketer also provides him with valuable experience in understanding the challenges faced by players. In Australian domestic cricket during his playing days. He played for both South Australia and Victoria in first-class cricket and even led both teams during his career.

This leadership experience, gained from being a player, is likely to add value to Siddons’ coaching role with the Sri Lanka women’s cricket team. Siddons is taking over the reins at a critical juncture in the progress of the Sri Lanka women’s cricket team, which has been growing from strength to strength in recent times. The team is likely to look to gain momentum in the lead up to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to be held in England and Wales in June-July.
