Gujarat Giants Sign Jintimani Kalita as Injury Replacement for Titas Sadhu in WPL 2026

Gujarat Giants have confirmed the signing of young Indian pacer Jintimani Kalita as an injury replacement for fast bowler Titas Sadhu for the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 season. Sadhu was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to injury before making her debut for the Giants, and the franchise moved quickly to bring in Kalita to strengthen their bowling unit.

Jintimani Kalita is a 22-year-old cricketer from Guwahati, Assam. She plays as a right-arm medium pace bowler and is also a left-handed batter. Kalita first came into the spotlight when she was picked by Mumbai Indians Women in the inaugural WPL auction in 2023, where she was bought for INR 10 lakh.

In the WPL, Kalita has appeared in 13 matches. While she has limited opportunities with the bat at this level, her primary role is as a bowler. In domestic cricket, she has shown her ability to contribute with both ball and bat. On the domestic circuit, in Women’s List A matches up to the 2024-25 season, Kalita has played 25 matches, scoring 351 runs at an average of 20.64 with the highest score of 78.

With the ball in List A cricket, she has taken 21 wickets at an average of 34.47 with best figures of 3 for 16. While her T20 bowling statistics at higher levels are limited, her experience in domestic competitions shows she is a steady performer and a bowler capable of making breakthroughs.

Kalita’s selection by Gujarat Giants comes at a crucial time in their season. The franchise has aimed to build a balanced squad with both domestic and international talent, but injuries to key players have posed challenges. Sadhu’s unavailability left a gap in the pace department, and Kalita’s inclusion provides depth and flexibility for the team management.

Titas Sadhu was picked up by Gujarat Giants ahead of the WPL 2026 season after being acquired from Delhi Capitals at the WPL mega auction late last year. She had been expected to add depth to the Giants’ bowling attack, but unfortunately, she suffered an injury before making her debut for the team and has not played a match this season. This setback opened the door for the Giants to bring in Jintimani Kalita as her replacement, ensuring the team retains strong bowling options for the remainder of the tournament.

For Kalita, this is another opportunity to establish herself on a big stage. In previous senior domestic tournaments, she has been among the leading wicket takers, and the WPL offers a platform to test her skills against some of the best batters in the world. Her fitness, work rate and adaptability will be key as Gujarat Giants look to climb the standings in the second half of this season. The Giants will hope that she can deliver consistent performances and help the team maintain momentum in the WPL.
