The eleventh edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) delivered another composed and clinical performance at the North Sydney Oval, where Hobart Hurricanes Women extended their superb run with a fifth consecutive win, handing Melbourne Renegades Women their second loss in five matches.

Having won the toss, the Hurricanes chose to field first, and their bowlers responded with a disciplined, well-structured effort that prevented the Renegades from ever breaking free despite several aggressive individual innings.
The Renegades sent in to bat, made a steady but frequently interrupted start, losing Courtney Webb (2 off 3) early when she was caught off Molly Strano’s bowling. Emma de Broughe (10 off 7) followed soon after, dismissed by Strano, before Sophie Molineux was removed for 11. From there, Alice Capsey played with trademark fluency, striking 37 off 24 with six boundaries before she was caught off Linsey Smith’s bowling.
Georgia Wareham produced the innings of the day for the Renegades, hammering 41 off 26 and clearing the rope once, but she too fell to Hayley Silver-Holmes. Deandra Dottin chipped in with 18 before being bowled by Graham, and Nicole Faltum added 11 before Carey struck, held by Coyte. The lower order offered only scattered resistance.
Despite these regular setbacks, the Renegades managed 155/10, a competitive total built on intermittent bursts of momentum rather than sustained partnership. Graham (3/23) led the Hurricanes bowling with an outstanding spell that yielded three wickets, while Linsey Smith (2/33), Strano (2/13) and Silver-Holmes (2/31) picked up two each, and Carey (1/26) added one.
Chasing 156, the Hurricanes began briskly before rain intervened, forcing the target to be recalculated under the DLS method. Lizelle Lee provided an aggressive start with 15 off 9 before she was caught by Faltum off Milly Illingworth, and Nat Sciver-Brunt fell shortly after, caught behind by de Broughe off Flintoff. But Danni Wyatt-Hodge ensured the innings never lost shape, striking a powerful 21 off 15 before she was trapped lbw by Wareham.
With the scoreboard recalibrated after the interruption, the chase was defined by Nicola Carey’s authoritative knock of 39 off 29, including six boundaries, before she was caught by Coyte off Wareham. From there, Heather Graham and Elyse Villani calmly steered the Hurricanes through the adjusted target, finishing unbeaten on 14 and 12 respectively, keeping the innings controlled and unhurried across the final overs.
The Hurricanes eventually reached 106/4 in 12 overs, completing the DLS chase with composure and sealing their fifth win in a row in what has been a commanding phase of their campaign.
For the Renegades, it marked their second defeat in five matches, another frustrating outing where strong individual efforts with the bat could not translate into a defendable position. And fittingly, the day belonged to Heather Graham, whose three wickets and composed finishing touch with the bat earned her the Player of the Match award.
