Agra wore its pride on its streets. From dawn to dusk, the city throbbed with celebration as thousands gathered along a 10km stretch to welcome their hometown superstar, Deepti Sharma — the all-rounder who played a defining role in delivering India’s maiden ICC Women’s World Cup title in 2025. What unfolded was more than a reception; it was a moment that stitched itself into the city’s history.

What began as whispers of her arrival quickly transformed into a full-fledged civic celebration. Flowers rained, drums echoed, and tricolours rippled in the November air as Agra turned into a living tapestry of gratitude for one of its most cherished daughters. Organised by the District Cricket Association (DCA), the grand roadshow wound from Hotel Bhawna Clarks Inn to the Star Next Cricket Ground, giving fans of all ages a rare opportunity to honour a player who epitomises resilience, consistency, and the spirit of Indian sport.
Standing atop an open truck, Deepti waved to the sea of supporters — schoolchildren holding handmade posters, young girls chanting her name, and sporting groups lined up in rows of colour and rhythm. It was a celebration of a dream fulfilled not just for her, but for the entire nation.
Security arrangements were airtight yet unobtrusive, ensuring a smooth passage through the swelling crowds. Over 150 police and traffic personnel were deployed along the route, with senior officers including ACP Shamshabad Amisha and ACP Taj Security Piyush Kant Rai in command. DCP Traffic Sonam Kumar later noted that the procession required no route diversions thanks to meticulous planning — a testament to the magnitude and organisation of Agra’s tribute.
The celebrations reached their emotional peak at the Star Next Cricket Ground, where Deepti addressed her city with a mixture of disbelief and gratitude. As she stepped up to speak, the silence of thousands fell over the ground — a moment heavy with pride.
“It feels amazing to see so much affection from my own people,” she began, her voice reflecting the surrealness of the moment.
After India’s landmark triumph, Deepti credited one defining factor — trust, adding, “Our victory was the result of teamwork and belief in each other. No matter how any player performed, we had complete faith that playing together would bring the result we wanted.”
The all-rounder also spoke of what such recognition means for women’s cricket in India: “I could never have imagined such a roadshow happening for me or any other player,” said an overwhelmed Deepti.
But even amid the celebrations, she reminded everyone of the road ahead. “Now, our next goal is to win an Olympic medal and focus on the upcoming T20 World Cup,” she said, drawing loud cheers.
Deepti’s homecoming felt even more significant considering the magnitude of her World Cup performance. Named Player of the Tournament, she emerged as the heartbeat of India’s campaign — finishing as the top wicket-taker with 22 wickets, scoring 215 invaluable runs highlighted by three fifties, and delivering a once-in-a-generation performance in the final where she scored 58 off 58 balls and claimed 5/39, including the crucial dismissal of Laura Wolvaardt.
Her impact had been felt from the very start: in the opening match against Sri Lanka, she rescued India from 124/6 with a 103-run partnership alongside Amanjot Kaur and picked up 3/54 — a Player-of-the-Match effort that set the tone for her extraordinary tournament.
With that, the crowd erupted once more — a mixture of applause, cheers, and the unspoken pride of a city that watched one of its own conquer the world.
