Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, Charis Bekker has been one of the most exciting young prospects in Australian women’s cricket. A 21-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner and handy lower-order batter, she represents the new wave of multi-skilled cricketers who bring both flair and tactical awareness to the game.

Bekker came through the ranks of Western Australia’s domestic cricket system, where her steady progress and calm temperament stood out. She first broke into the spotlight during the Women’s National Cricket League, where she consistently delivered economical spells and chipped in with crucial runs down the order. Her performances earned her opportunities with the Perth Scorchers before catching the eyes of the Melbourne Renegades.

Bekker joined the Renegades during WBBL 10 as a replacement player while the team was based in Perth. Even with limited chances, bowling in just five innings, she made a lasting impression with her accuracy, discipline, and ability to thrive in high-pressure situations.

One of her breakthrough moments came when she dismissed the legendary Meg Lanning in her debut season, finishing with a superb spell of (1/9) in 4 overs. She also removed power-hitter Grace Harris for duck in the WBBL Grand Final, showcasing that she has both skill and temperament to take on world-class batters. Those performances immediately positioned her as a future match-winner for the Renegades.

Renegades’ General Manager James Rosengarten praised her impact, saying, “Charis is a great young talent who adds balance and depth to our squad. She’s a calm performer, brings energy to the group, and has continued to grow her game over the past year. We were pleased with the impact she made in her first season and look forward to seeing her take another step forward in WBBL 11.”

For Bekker, re-signing with the Renegades is not just another contract; it’s an opportunity to grow within a team culture that believes in her potential. Reflecting on her return, she said, “I loved my time with the Renegades last year, it was such a whirlwind, but I enjoyed every minute of it. It’s a great group of players and staff, and I learned a lot from being part of that environment. I’m looking forward to getting back out there this season and contributing wherever I can.”

At just 21, Bekker also represents the Renegades’ long-term vision, investing in youth, building core domestic talent, and nurturing future leaders. Her development trajectory over the past two years has been steep, and under the mentorship of experienced teammates, she looks set to take her game to the next level in WBBL 2025.
