South Africa’s opening batter, Tazmin Brits, has etched her name in the record books, breaking the all-time record for the most centuries in a calendar year in Women’s ODIs with a remarkable tally of five centuries in 2025.

Her latest milestone came in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup match against New Zealand on 6th October 2025 at the Holkar Stadium, Indore, where her fluent 101 off 89 balls powered South Africa to a commanding six-wicket recovery win after a crushing defeat to England in their opener.
This knock, featuring 15 boundaries and a six, also marked her first century in World Cups and her seventh in the format overall, achieved in just 41 innings, making her the fastest to reach the landmark, surpassing former Australian skipper Meg Lanning’s 44 innings.
Brits surpassed Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana’s previous mark of four centuries in a year (set in 2024) and now sits atop the 2025 list for most ODI hundreds.
Tazmin Brits’ record-breaking year has been defined by consistency, adaptability, and match-winning efforts at the top of the order:
29 April 2025 Vs India, Colombo
Chasing 277 in a tri-series fixture, Brits scored 109 off 107 balls with 13 fours and three sixes. Though South Africa fell 15 runs short, the knock showcased her chasing prowess.
17 June 2025 Vs West Indies, 3Ws Oval, Cave Hill
In the third ODI, Brits struck 101 off 91 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes in the first innings. South Africa emerged victorious by 166 runs. She won Player of the Match and later Player of the Series for her 184 runs in the 2-1 series win.
16 September 2025 Vs Pakistan, Lahore (1st ODI)
Brits crafted an unbeaten 101 off 121 balls with 9 boundaries in a measured run chase of 256. South Africa won by 8 wickets to take the lead in the series.
19 September 2025 vs Pakistan, Lahore (2nd ODI)
In one of her finest innings, Brits hammered an unbeaten 171 off 141 deliveries, striking 20 fours and four sixes in a rain-shortened 46-over contest. She became only the second player (after Amy Satterthwaite in 2017) to score three consecutive ODI centuries. South Africa won by 25 runs; Brits again claimed Player of the Match and finished the series with 272 runs to earn Player of the Series.
6 October 2025 Vs New Zealand, Indore (World Cup)
Responding to the disappointment of a 10-wicket thrashing against England in their opener, Brits partnered Sune Luus in a decisive 159-run stand, for the 2nd wicket, which was also their highest-ever partnership for any wicket in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. Scoring 101 off 89 balls in a chase of 232. Awarded Player of the Match, she ensured South Africa returned to winning ways with a commanding performance.
The ongoing 13th edition of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup is hosted by India and partly in Sri Lanka from 30 September to 2 November 2025.
South Africa’s campaign began disastrously on 3 October 2025 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, when they were bowled out for their second-lowest World Cup total (69), succumbing to England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt-led side in a 10-wicket rout. However, the emphatic win over New Zealand, captained by Sophie Devine, has sparked hopes of resurgence under Laura Wolvaardt’s leadership.
