Inoka Ranaweera stands as one of the most accomplished and enduring figures in Sri Lankan women’s cricket, celebrated for her left-arm spin and her consistency over more than a decade. Born in Balapitiya, she made her ODI debut in April 2012 against West Indies, and at the domestic level has represented Southern Ladies Cricket Club and Southern Province Women.

Inoka Ranaweera’s International Career

Over the course of her career, Ranaweera has played 80 ODIs, claiming 80 wickets at an average of 33.91, with best figures of 4/39. While primarily a bowler, she has also contributed useful runs down the order when required. Her most productive spells came in 2016 (13 wickets in 8 matches) and 2017 (16 wickets in 15 matches), marking her out as one of Sri Lanka’s most reliable performers during that period.

She has featured in two World Cups (2013 and 2017). In the 2013 edition, she picked up 3 wickets from 4 matches with a best of 2/27, while in 2017 she finished with 6 wickets from 7 matches, her best being 2/55. Among her career highlights are becoming the first Sri Lankan woman to claim an ODI hat-trick (against New Zealand in November 2015) and winning the Sri Lanka Women’s ODI Bowler of the Year award in 2016 and 2017.

Now preparing for her third World Cup campaign, Ranaweera remains a vital component of Sri Lanka’s bowling attack—offering control, guile, and experience that provide both stability and breakthroughs when her team needs them most.
