Alice Davidson-Richards Shines in Northern Superchargers’ 7-Wicket Win Over Oval Invincibles

In The Women’s Hundred 2025, the Oval Invincibles, led by the skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill, were up against the Northern Superchargers, led by skipper Hollie Armitage, at Headingley, Leeds, in the first game of the double-header on August 23.

The Invincibles suffered another bump in their campaign courtesy of another successive defeat this season. The Superchargers are also having a topsy-turvy time in the ongoing 5th edition of the tournament. The Invincibles made one change, Tash Farrant replaced Daisy Gibb in the starting 11. The Superchargers retained the same side that took the field in their previous game.

Lauren Winfield-Hill leads Oval Invincibles to a respectable 125/6

The Invincibles lost their opening batter, Paige Scholfield, for a golden duck on the first ball of the innings, after skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill won the toss and opted to bat first. Grace Balinger provided the first breakthrough for the Northern Superchargers. Alice Capsey joined Meg Lanning at the crease, and the duo stitched a crucial 19-run partnership for the 2nd wicket to lead some sort of a recovery for their side.

Kate Cross picked up the wicket of Alice Capsey (12 off 12 balls) to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side in the powerplay. Decent partnerships of 20 for the 3rd wicket between Marizanne Kapp and Meg Lanning, 25-run 4th wicket partnership between skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill and Meg Lanning, followed by another crucial 46-run stand for the 5th wicket between skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill (37 off 30 balls) and Joanne Gardner (19* off 14 balls), took them past the 100-run mark.

A handy cameo 12 (5 balls) from Amanda-Jade Wellington propelled the total closer to the 130-run mark (125/6) in their quota of 100 deliveries. Meg Lanning (21 off 25 balls) played her part with the bat for Oval Invincibles. Kate Cross (20-11-16-2), Annabel Sutherland (20-9-26-2), and Grace Ballinger (20-9-20-1) were impressive with the ball for the Northern Superchargers, keeping the scoring rate in check.

Chasing a target of 126, Davina Perrin survived a testing opening set by Marizanne Kapp; however, Phoebe Franklin soon ended her stay at the crease just outside the powerplay to provide the first breakthrough for the Oval Invincibles, breaking a promising 37-run opening stand.

Phoebe Litchfield joined Alice Davidson-Richards at the crease, and the pair solidified the Superchargers’ hold on the contest with another decisive 47-run partnership for the 2nd wicket, which also took them closer to the 100-run mark. The Invincibles suffered a massive blow with a serious injury to Tash Farrant, ruling her out of the contest. Alice Capsey also suffered a minor injury, which kept her out of action for a decent period of time in the contest.

The Superchargers took full toll of the part-time options utilised by the Invincibles skipper, Lauren Winfield-Hill, to fill up for the overs. The Hollie Armitage-led side cruised home with 7 wickets in hand and 5 balls to spare. A solid defeat meant the two-time champions, Oval Invincibles, were knocked out of the ongoing 5th edition of the tournament.

Alice Davidson-Richards (50 off 32 balls), Phoebe Litchfield (29 off 21 balls), Nicola Carey (25* off 15 balls), and Annabel Sutherland (17* off 16 balls) chipped in with crucial contributions with the bat for the Northern Superchargers. Amanda-Jade Wellington (20-9-19-1) and Phoebe Franklin (10-3-15-1) were the only wicket-takers with the ball for Oval Invincibles, while Marizanne Kapp (20-12-17-0) played her part with the ball for her side.

Alice Davidson-Richards (50 off 32 balls) was awarded the Player of the Match for her impressive performance with the bat for her side.
