This Day That Year – How Harmanpreet Kaur and Deandra Dottin made records in Women’s T20 World Cup 2018!

Last year during this time, Women’s T20 World Cup was taking place in the Caribbean. Let’s have a look at two major incidents that happened on the 9th of November in 2018. Harmanpreet Kaur of India made her first T20I century and Deandra Dottin of West Indies registered the best bowling figures of the tournament.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s 103 off 51:
Harmanpreet Kaur etched her name in the record books as she became the first Indian woman to hit a century in the shortest format of the game. She also became the third woman for any country to score a ton at the T20 World Cup. The skipper made 103 runs in 51 balls to set a target of 195 runs for New Zealand. Her century was studded with 7 fours and 8 sixes as she hit every part of the ground during her stay in the middle. Kaur, along with Jemimah Rodrigues made another record. Rodrigues and Kaur’s 134-run partnership was India Women’s highest for any wicket in T20Is. Harmanpreet’s knock powered India’s total to 194 which was the highest by any team at an ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. It was an absolute delight to watch Harman bat in that innings. She owned the game completely as she batted with a strike rate which went above 201. Kaur was awarded the Player of the Match award as India won the match by 34 runs.

Deandra Dottin’s 5/5:
Deandra Dottin of West Indies ripped apart the Bangladesh line-up as she registered her best bowling figures. She took her first 5-wicket haul in T20Is in the T20 World Cup had happened last year. She took 5 wickets and gave only 5 runs as she got only 3.4 overs to bowl. She played a significant role in bowling out the opposition in 15 overs. Bangladesh were all-out scoring only 46 runs which was the lowest team total in the history of the tournament. Dottin’s 5/5 were the best bowling figures by a West Indian Women in T20Is. It was also the best spell of the entire tournament. For her match-winning 5-fer, Dottin was awarded the Player of the Match award.
