A complete team effort from Thunders helped to cruise past Stars defeating them by 4 wickets at Sydney.
Winning the toss, the Thunder skipper opted to bowl. The Stars team coming from 3 defeats, finally had a great start to the inning as openers had a stand of 79 runs in 11 overs. Lizelle Lee played a good knock of 50 runs in 34 balls including 4 sixes and 2 fours. Even the skipper Villani scored a Half-century, she scored 52 runs including 7 fours. Both the batters were dismissed after reaching their Half-centuries, they failed to convert them into a big. Once both got dismissed the rest of the batters did not contribute much as they ended up scoring 141 for 5 in 20 overs. With the ball, everyone contributed with a wicket each.
Chasing the target of 142, though the Thunders did not have a great start like Stars they successfully chased the target. All credits to the two senior pros of the team Rachel Priest and Alex Blackwell who played an excellent knock of 45 respectively. Though they lost Stalenberg and Haynes early, both the batters used their experience to the best and laid a good foundation for the chase by scoring well. Once Priest got out at 45 by Penna the wickets fell in tandem, all credits to Penna who picked up 4 wickets and tried to get Stars back in the match. But sadly for Stars, the experienced Blackwell and some cameos by the lower order helped Thunder to chase the target in 19.4 overs with 4 wickets in hand.
With this loss, Stars remain at the points table with 4 failures in a row. Almost it’s an end of the tournament for them.
Brief Scores: Stars 141 for 5 ( Lee 50, Farrell 1 for 18) lost to Thunders 142 for 6 ( Blackwell 45*, Penna 4 for 20) by 4 wickets.
