Emily Burke’s 46 and Tilly Corteen-Coleman’s 3-fer guides Surrey to win over Essex

Yorkshire defeated the ECB by four wickets in the final league game of the 2025 Abu Dhabi Women’s T20 Counties Super Cup. Surrey led by skipper Phoebe Franklin were up against Essex led by skipper Amara Carr in the 5th place play-off.

Jemima Spence and Emily Burke propel Surrey to a fighting total

Surrey got the opportunity to put the runs on the board, and they got off to a poor start finding themselves in trouble at 25/2 losing both their openers including the wicket of their skipper inside the powerplay. Alice Davidson-Richards joined Alice Monaghan at the crease and the duo took their side closer to the 50-run mark with a much-needed 22-run partnership for the 3rd wicket.

Abtaha Maqsood picked up the wicket of Alice Davidson-Richards (19 off 11 balls) to provide the 3rd breakthrough for Essex. The 34-run partnership for the 4th wicket between Jemima Spence and Alice Monaghan, followed by another vital 39-run partnership for the 5th wicket between Emily Burke (43 off 26 balls) and Alice Monaghan got their side to the 120-run mark, setting a platform for the final flourish.

Surrey eventually ended up with a competitive total of 163/8 in their quota of 20 overs. Alice Monaghan (31 off 26 balls, retired out), and Jemima Spence (24 off 16 balls) chipped in with vital contributions with the bat for their side. Kate Coppack (4-0-26-3), and Sophia Smale (4-0-32-2) were the stand-out performers with the ball, while Esmae MacGregor (3-0-19-0) was impressive with the ball for Essex.

Tilly Corteen-Coleman and Isobel Sidhu choke Essex as Surrey seals’ victory

Chasing a target of 164, the Essex openers Madeleine Blinkhorn-Jones and Cordelia Griffith got their side off to a decent start with an 18-run opening partnership. Tilly Corteen-Coleman picked up the wicket of Cordelia Griffith to provide the first breakthrough for Surrey in the 4th over of the innings.

Alice Macleod joined Madeleine Blinkhorn-Jones at the crease and the duo settled the nerves within the camp with a crucial 36-run partnership for the 2nd wicket to take their side past the 50-run mark. Isobel Sidhu struck twice, removing Alice Macleod (24 off 18 balls), and Madeleine Blinkhorn-Jones breaking a crucial stand and bringing her side firmly back into the contest in the 9th over of the run chase.

A vital 41-run stand for the 6th wicket between Riva Pindoria and skipper Amara Carr gave a glimmer of hope for their side in the run chase. However, it wasn’t enough for them to get over the line as they were restricted to 146/7 in their quota of 20 overs, falling 17 runs short of the target.

Alice Mcleod (24 off 18 balls), skipper Amara Carr (24 off 20 balls), and Riva Pindoria (24* off 22 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Essex. Tilly Corteen-Coleman (4-0-32-3), and Isobel Sidhu (4-0-26-2) were the star performers with the ball for Surrey. Priyanaz Chatterji (3-0-19-0), and Bethan Miles (2-0-9-0) were impressive with the ball for their side.
