The Irish side is currently on a tour to Bangladesh for a limited overs series with the series beginning with a three-match ODI series followed by three T20Is.
After electing to bat first, Bangladeshi openers gave an assured start after putting 59 runs on the board. Following the first wicket, Sharmin Akhter walked out to bat at number three. The right-handed batter opened her account with a couple of boundaries. It was her attacking display with the bat as Sharmin was involved in a 104-run stand for the second wicket alongside Fargana Hoque before it was broken after the dismissal of Fargana for 61.
Sharmin was then involved in a 61-run stand for the third wicket with the Bangladeshi skipper Nigar Sultana. Sharmin Akhter smashed 14 boundaries throughout her innings at a strike rate of 107 but the right-handed batter missed her well-deserved century by four runs after being dismissed by Freya Sargent in the 49th over. Sharmin registered her highest score in the ODI format following her 96. Her knock helped Bangladesh to cross the 250-run mark with Bangladesh putting up a score of 252 runs-their highest in the ODIs.
Bangladesh eventually registered a dominant 154-run victory over the visitors, their biggest ever in ODIs, as Ireland was bowled out for 98. Sharmin Akhter was named the player of the match for her high-octane innings.
