The Radha Yadav-led side defeated Team D by five wickets in a low-scoring thriller in the 5th match of the Senior Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy 2024. The Harleen Deol-led side defeated Team C by five wickets in the 6th match of the competition, day 3 fixtures.
Team E led by skipper Radha Yadav was up against Team C led by skipper Minnu Mani in the 7th match of the competition. Team D led by skipper Shafali Verma was up against Team B led by skipper Sneh Rana in the 8th match of the competition.
Minnu Mani’s fifty overpowers Nandini Kashyap and Raghvi’s heroics
The Team E openers Raghvi (56 off 47 balls), and wicketkeeper Nandini Kashyap (94 off 65 balls) justified skipper Radha Yadav’s decision to bat first after winning the toss. The opening duo stitched a mammoth 138-run opening stand, accounting for a significant amount (75%) of the team’s total. Team E eventually ended up with a massive total of 183/3 in their quota of 20 overs. Saranya Gadwal (4-0-31-2), Titas Sadhu (3-0-24-0), and Yamuna Rana (3-0-24-0) were the pick of the bowlers for Team C
Openers Shweta Sehrawat and Vrinda Dinesh stepped out with positive intent with a crucial 59-run opening stand for Team C, chasing a mountainous total of 184. Archana Devi picked up the wicket of Shweta Sehrawat to provide the first breakthrough for Team E. Vrinda Dinesh followed her back to the pavilion to provide the 2nd breakthrough for the opposition.
Skipper Minnu Mani joined Tripti Singh at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 66-run partnership for the 3rd wicket to keep them in the hunt in the run chase. P Naik cleaned up Tripti Singh to provide the much-needed 3rd breakthrough for Team E. Team C eventually chased down the target comfortably with 6 wickets in hand and two balls to spare.
Skipper Minnu Mani’s half-century (65 of 41 balls) led the way for Team C, alongside handy contributions from Vrinda Dinesh (35 off 19 balls), Tripti Singh (30 off 21 balls), and Shweta Sehrawat (23 off 16 balls), and Shipra Giri (22* off 15) ensured that they stay on track in terms of the required rate in a tall run chase. P Naik (4-0-27-2), Vasavi Akhila Pavani (4-0-33-0), and Archana Devi (2.4-0-25-1) were the key performers with the ball for Team E.
Wicket-keeper batter Nandini Kashyap continued her purple patch with the bat, delivering back-to-back impactful performances for her side. As a result of her another match-defining inning (94 off 65 balls), she was awarded the Player of the Match. Uma Chetry’s Whirlwind century powers Team B to a dominant win
The Team B openers Shubha Satheesh and wicket-keeper batter Uma Chetry thrived well after skipper Sneh Rana won the toss and opted to bat first. The duo stitched a massive 96-run opening partnership, scoring at a rate of over 9 runs an over. Skipper Shafali Verma picked up the wicket of Shubha Satheesh to provide the much-needed breakthrough for Team D at the halfway mark.
Team B eventually ended up with a humongous total of 197/3 in their quota of 20 overs. Wicket-keeper batter Uma Chetry (122 off 71 balls) slammed a sensational century and was responsible for an astonishing contribution of around 62% of the team’s total. Tejal Hasabnis (20* off 11 balls), and Shubha Satheesh (28 off 24 balls) provided good support with the bat. Chasing a mammoth total of 198, Team D succumbed to the scoreboard pressure as they failed to find any sort of momentum in the run chase. They were eventually restricted to 124/8 in their quota of 20 overs, falling 73 runs short of the target. Tanuja Kanwer (51 off 43 balls), skipper Shafali Verma (18 off 15 balls), and Monikha Das (15* off 15 balls) were the lone performers with the bat for Team D.
